Just putting this under new topic.

Just an update, did purchase the SWB mentioned 89 2.5ITD auto. Very happy withit so far.
Finished the 2inch lift on the w/e all went well except for a few gremlins. As expected the auto transmission selector is about one click out, park is reverse, drive is 2, etc. But how do i get first gear locked?? Or reallign the gear indicators?? Does console require some cutting?

Anyhow test drive went well. Then later on the way back to the city the windy roads and a bit of engine movement ended up sounding like there was a large whipper snipper under the bonnet. On inspection the fan was hitting the bottom radiator hose and hose clamp. Rotated the clamp, this minimised the fans haircut and i limped home checking the radiator hose every 20min & temp gauge.

Who has resolved these issues and how? I can either lower the radiator, however i thinks theres only about 10mm until it hits the A/C condenser pipes. Or smaller fan.

Lowering the rad will centalize the fan on the area it is most effective.
Most gear linkages have an adjustment slot to allow alignment of gear indicator

Its the engine cooling fan. Already took the fan off once to remove the lower radiator shroud, otherwise it would of hit the bottom of the fan with the lift, that was fun :x . So the coolings already been slightly debilitated, just hoping 10mm will be enough, interesting that i havnt heard this come up before on pajs.

Anymore help on getting 1st gear back (links,photos,documentries are accepted ;) )?

I have a import with coil rear springs and can fit 33" tyres with just a 2" spring lift.

Maybe going that way first (suspension?)

Log on the 4x4 wire (american pajero site) they have a lot of first generation SWB Autos but with 3lt V6 petrols (Aust didn't get SWB Auto) so there is not a lot of info around regarding body lifts with the Auto box. Why I havn't gone this way yet.

Got the BFG's 33x10.5 M/T today, looks a treat, fits no problem with the lift. The fan still occasionly hits the hose, looks like the fan is wearing onto the hose rather than the hose is wearing out.

Yeah have checked 4x4wire, theres a link there from the body lift section in the tech bible. Introduces the transmission issue but doesnt solve it, doh. Want to head up to the High Country this weekend i can see the brakes getting plenty of use on the descents without much engine braking (not that autos do anyway).

Ill try lowering the radiator friday and taking the console off again to work out a way to get 1st, again.

I copied the idea from 4x4 wire and used coils out of a 1996 4 door pajero. Gave me 2" lift and works really well.

While I was at the wreckers there were a few pajeros so I grabed some used ARB shocks front and rear. It was a bit cheep but they do the job well.

as previously stated there should be an adjustment slot for the trans, usually underneath the vehicle where the linkage attachs to the trans.

Forgot to mention, you were spot on J Top, 2min fix by adjusting the length of the control rod (make it longer). I'll post some pics soon of that w/e.
