15k to spend on LWB
15k to spend on LWB
I have 15k to spend on buying and modifing a lwb zook, what would you recomend. I live in QLD so SPOA is not an option. Zook must be daily drivable and run on 32/33's.

15K to spend on a LWB, give me the 15K, I'll buy one, mod it and give it to you and walk away with at least 8K in my pocket.
Seriorly if you want something decent as a daily driver you won't be doing anything that wild, such as 60 series diffs etc. You could go down the track of buying everything brand new and get air lockers and easily blow 15K or you could get something just as capable for 6K. Remember it's a zook so it doesn't matter what you do it'll only be worth about 6K max anyway.
It'll be your car and you do with it what you want but unless you're building a comp capable vehicle I'd keep the extra coin in your pocket or buy one for the street, in which case you can get something more comfortable then a sierra, and one for the bush.

Already have GU 4800 petrol Wagon on 35's but it is getting expensive to drive to work every day but I need it for family holidays and to tow the boat. I have built a swb zook before with 32"s spoa rockhoppers, lockers, long range tank, arb bar with winch, 1.6 16V etc but this about 8 or 9 years ago (before wife and kids). Justcruzin you take 7k and I will take 15k and we see who builds the better truck. Buildups always cost more than you budgeted and I have built a few 4x4's I'm a boat builder by trade and work in new product development for Riviera so have done a few boat projects worth a couple of million as well. I am not a fan of booty fab so quality costs and for a pissy 15k not real worried about the resale.
I am thinking of getting a lwb in good nick for around 4/5k I am interested if anybody has done a diesel conversion (other than VW in US) and if so what they used?

sorry mate, but as you know there are a lot of ppl out there with visions of grandeur and from the first post you come across as a lot less experienced.
If you've done all those mods to a zook before what else do you need to know. I'm sure for 15K you will definately build a better truck, but for what purpose. If you're concerned about SPOA why aren't you worried about 33's
if you're a boat builder why would it be booty fab surely you have the skills and tools available to get things made to a professional standard.
Why do you want a heavy cast iron engine rather then a petrol alloy one, upsets the whole balance of the vehicle.

Was asking a question to see what peoples thoughts would be as to the best route to go with LWB maybe get some ideas and input, it's been a long time since I tooled with a zook but it seems nothing much has changed from your responce, as for why not spoa well I want to get everything engineered and mod plated. I can live with changing the tyres before hand but not the entire suspension. As for knowing people who can give a hand I know heaps but still materials and parts cost. Chromemoly, hiem joints, ARB lockers, rockhopper, winch, lights, optima batties, plasma rope etc etc
I can see why a diesel might be a bit heavy in a swb but in a lwb the ability to get low fuel consumption, low down torque and the lack of electrics really appeals (worst part of doing the 1.6 16V conversion was the bloody electrics)
Looking at 2 vastly different suspension options 1) sprung under with longer springs on modified shackle hangers and climax shackles 2) Doing a 3 link front and 4 link rear with coilovers
Thinking of using hilux axles
Undesided on engine gearbox and tranfercase combo

you could always check out my thread project gremlin, lwb 1lt 1.3lt diffs body lift ruf hilux fuel tank (70 lt compared to standard 35 or so lt(long range tank for a zook) corolla 4K motor (im guessing 1000+ km range) custom front bar and tray and it still owes me less than $5000 (including original purchase price)
