I haven't found another 12V compressor than can compare with the boss. If all you want to do is pump up tyres fast then yes you will find faster compressors. But with the boss i can change all four tyres on my car, one at a time, using a normal workshop rattle gun with no down time waiting for compressor. This is with a 15L tank at 120 psi. As an on board air system i still the the boss is the best 12v system i've seen. I didn't think it was a secret that it works best with a tank, that's what makes it so good, it's ability to fill a tank to high pressures at a decent rate.
I posted my own results of a comprehensive test between a boss system and some others. My results didn't really differ greatly in regards to inflating tyres. The twin bluey is one of the quickest on the market, but not when you want to use air tools.

I also did some testing and cant agree with those findings.
With a 9L tank, i can inflate each tyre in less than one minute each. With such a small tank, i cant see the time being much different without a tank.

He wanted to know what i thought about the boss but i brought the whole set up with tank & all and could not be any happyer with it
He obvously did not read the discription to well as it said it works best with a tank

This one runs its own built in pressure switch, so you can run the compressor at the full stretch of the hose cause you don't have to switch it on and off. You use it just like the ones on a service station compressor. It shuts itself off when the line pressure hits 145psi and back on when it drops to 120psi. Great for caravans, trailers, etc.
Same rate as the Max Air II.
Best thing about it is that it to use it in an onboard air kit, you just need to hard mount it and plumb it to the tank, its already got the pressure switch....

Without a tank, that gun type inflator would suck so bad! You would have to stand there and hold it for a couple of minutes per tyre.
Normally, you clip it onto the valve and check the pressure each minute or so... between tyres you don't have to turn it off, you just let it free flow.
I just got the new ARB high volume on board compressor, and the inflation kit comes with an air hose and a pressure switch which does the same as what this one states to do. Rigging up an air tank would also be very easy... not as though you need it with 31"s.
Same air flow rate, smaller unit size, and a hell of a lot cheaper!

There is no way on gods earth the compressor only uses 25amp... I run the importer of these, who is based at Nerang in QLD and he basically agreed it used much more power.
Hell the instruction kit you get tells you to use 100amp cable.

i myself would stay away from boss...having been tinkering with air suspension for sometime boss is a rebaged version of a brand called "chassis tech" or "chassis shit" def cannot cut it for supplying air for suspension so i wouldnt be trusting it if u really needed it... i myself would use a Air zennith compressor or a Viar...and if ur pockets are deep a oaisis compressor, the oaisis is prob the only aircomp id use to run airtools without a tank. http://www.oasisoffroad.com/index.html

Interesting call, I would say that I am interested in seeing the flow rates of the ARB compressor under pressure.
