Where can I get a replacement 2.8 in Melbourne? and what prices am I looking at?

Other 2.8 has gone. It had an Arb TURBO system on it. Looking to replace with same motor or if anyone has any ideas on other good engines let us know.

Looking for
Prices
Locations
Other engine options.

Thanks for your help.

Nope. 1KZ-te is the prado/new hilux 3.0 four cylinder. They are a very nice motor, but I imagine they would be a bit fiddly to swap into a 2.8 car. possible, but not easy.

the 12HT is the old 60 series 6 cylinder 4.0 litre diesel turbo. Production ceased around 1990. replacement was the 1HZ (atmo) and 1HDT (turbo) in 1991.

sorry nah,
the 12-ht was used in 60 series cruisers and is a 4 litre turbo diesel 6 cylinder.

the 1kz-te is a 3 litre, 4 cylinder turbo diesel used in some hiluxs from 97-05 and some prados from 97 to around 03, there is another 3 litre turbo diesel that was introduced around 2003, the 1kd-ftv, apparently producing 120kw at 3400 revs (and 343nm at 1600) . pretty nice compared to the 85kw the 1kz-te produces at the same revs (and 315nm at 2000).. but i think you'll be hard pressed finding a 1kd-ftv, let alone one for a half decent price. (if its toyota, you'll pay a premium )

THanks Guys,

Yeah its a company car that many people drive and some with little knoweldge of how diesels operate..probably over revving (due to lack of training) was the cause of this failure.

Might be better off throwing in a marks v6 or injected v8 conversion or something? Could be cheaper?

cheers

Look around and you'll get a none turboed 2.8 for about 1500 - 2g. Then just bolt you turbo back on after getting it checked. Shouldn't cost anymore then 3g all done and going again. Not mainy convo's will be less then that.

Unless you are doing all the work yourself a V6 or V8 conversion wil cost heaps more than finding a diesel and swapping it over.

Many years ago a price for a commodore V6 conversion drive in drive out at a decent workshop was $10500.

If you are going to put a 3L (2.8) back in it find out the real cause of the engine failure before you put the turbo back on or you might pop another one.

If the head is OK just get a reco short block?
