How do you get the snorkel to the airbox without cutting holes?

I think that he does't want to cut holes himself.

One thing for sure - it will cost you . Anything from $600 +.

What sort of 4WD is it ?

$600?

i was quoted $100 for a piece of 3" tube to be press bent to suit a 1982 hilux, so even with mandrel bending i woudn't want to spend anywhere near $250

snorkel

Post by vrunner »

Hey bubs

Take a look at this pic. Its a GU Patrol snorkel on a 79 Hilux. All I had to do was remove the emblem from the guard to make it fit!

He asked for GOOD looking snorkel INSTALLED and CUSTOM MADE.
Hell.. I tried to get one made up for my Rocky and cheapest
was $750 (stainess steel) installed. That's if anyone want's to touch it in the first place.
Anyone can get a PVC pipe and bend it for $60 but it would hardly be good looking and won't install by itself and won't even remaind you about drilling holes.

If you want to pay for a snorkel, the cheapest I've seen is 4wd Systems in Gillies Plains S.A.- $289 + postage + fitting. In Brisbane, 4x4 Spares Australia at Brendale does them for $395.

To do one yourself, find a sympathetic exhaust shop, especially ones that do alot of custom work, ie. intercooler fitments etc. for rice burners, and go and talk to them. My snorkel consists of 2 sections of mild steel 3" exhaust tube (600mm and 900mm) and some rubber bends with 3" I.D., 90deg. (for out of engine bay and onto guard) and 45deg. bend to angle up "A" pillar. I also had the guy tack on studs to fit to front guard and through "A" pillar and weld up a 45deg. mandrel bend, put some brackets on it and got rid of the standard Nissan pre-cleaner.

The whole thing cost me less than $140, and to me, it looks pretty damn good, and it will cop a wack in the bush. The most disturbing thing was the cost of a head for it. The one that I like (Airtec Club style) is $102!!!! At the moment I've got a 45deg. bend so it faces backward.

The hole, just find someone with a steady hand, a hole saw and maybe a jigsaw and a rotary type file (fits to drill) and go for it. Neaten it up with some rubber trim from Clark Rubber.

Give it a go!!!

This was about 8 years ago though..

Milanco at Hemant made Crusty's I believe. Company name is G. Milne and Co 33908133. They are a general engineering company but seem to enjoy doing custom 4x4 stuff. Never had any work done there myself so I don't know how reasonable their prices are.

This is mine.
It was $30 or so for parts.
I'll take another couple of pics in the daytime to show how.
But it is pretty simple.

Here are some older pictures of mine.
I recently changed the hose to a LandCruiser or maybe a Patrol hose.

Here is usually how I put my snorkel.
It tends to get damaged when I go through heavy brush or in tight gullies and the truck flips on it's side.
So I usually keep it short and tucked in.
There is a screw on the inside and I can put it vertical when the water gets deeper but.....
