Hi all,
Does anyone know much about using a small clutch to limit the torque to the PTO instead of the shear pin. Then it just slips instead of breaking a shear pin. This is on a HJ60 with a modified FJ40 PTO winch.

Ages ago there was a discussion on this. Powerauto in Dandenong (I think there still there). Do alot of winches for tow trucks. Might be worth a call to them to find out.
I did here they had a product like that. Would be interested to hear what you find. As I have a pto to fit. Its a factory Nissan PTO. But there all the same. Just a shaft from Gearbox to winch. And thats where it goes, on the shaft. Last time I was chatting to some one about them. I think they said they where about the size of a clenched fist.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY....
You can get torque-limiters in all different style for industry (I'm a mechanical designer). Tsubaki and Bonfiglioli do them I know, and I'm sure there are heaps of other brands. You can get all sorts of different styles, including shaft-mounted (femail-femail) (Femail-male) which sounds like maybe you're after?
As for suppliers, try a larger Fabbing shop which also sells to the public, or something like that... I've never had to buy any privately, and our purchasing dept does all the sourcing anyway...
Good luck.
