G'day guys.
Looking at a 2002/2003 3.0L TD Jackaoo for everyday use and towing a 21 foot wakeboard boat (approx 2 tonne).
Any feedback on this vehicle would be great. not really going to use for any 4WD'ing. Mainly for everyday use and towing.
Was on the wake.com forum asking about them as a tow vehicle and someone put me onto this forum so thought id post the question.
A mate had the petrol one and swears by it. However i have had some feedback that the TD model is plagues with engine problems??? True???

There has been random problems with the injectors on this engine. I'm no expert so I may be wrong in my details but i think the injection system on the engine (built by CAT?) works by way of oil pressure. The injectors can crack up and oil gets in the fuel causing issues. Injectors are $1000 each from Holden although some have been replaced under warranty.
The 3.5 V6 seems to be quite powerful and reliable but has been know to have big end bearing issues if servicing hasn't been kept up to stratch. Quite thirsty too I'm led to believe.
Again, I'm just going by info I've read so anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

The TD has heaps of issues early on with oil and fuel contamination. Yes the injectors are fired using high pressure oil. Holden issued 4 recalls (IIRC) so far and when i left Holden they still were getting the ocasional one kill itself. They started just replacing the injector seals, then replacing hte injectors and even went as far as pulling hte enjector sleeves out and pressing new sleeves in, but the issue still remains (though they will tell you it doesn't of course, sorta like nissans 3.0L t/d). The motor in them is from Isuzu (well the whole car is, but thats not the point ). Injectors were at $1000 a pop when i was there. personally i didnt like then, but thats just my opinion.

I am currently running around in my in laws Jackaroo Monterey. It's a petrol with all the bells and whistles and it is probably the nicest 4wd I have driven on the road. Comfortable, powerful, handles well and I love the leather heated seats on these cold mornings.
My folks have had a couple of the petrol ones. They had a 2 door which was quite modified and did the Simpson and the Tanami in it with no dramas. Then they got a LWB one and used it to tow a Jayco caravan behind it. Again it was great to drive but a little thirsty.
I have always been a fan of the Jackaroos and wouldn't hesitate to get one for a mild to medium offroader. In fact came very close to getting one last year for the missus

thanks guys. ive been on this forum and another 4x4 one and it seems the same story. the petrol ones are great and the turbo diesel ones are nothing but trouble... have only had one person say that they never had trouble with their turbo diesel one. everyone else (TD owners) are saying worst car they ever owned!!!
might pay for me to keep looking at different options.
