McNamara Diffs

Post by GRIMACE »

Hey again people Just got off the phone to Jeff ( ithink) @ McNamara Diffs....... all i can say is FARKIN USELESS............

So I have a question for you people, at a later date when I decide to fit the MAXI DRIVE LOCKERS, what are my options in regards to a similar thing to this from McNamara
http://www.mcnamaradiffs.com.au/hypoid1.html

I was very interested in this setup but trying to obtain info on it was completely FARKIN useless and apparently its air operated now.........

Unless someone has one or some information that I am struglling to receive, I am gonna go Maxi's...

I have plenty of time to learn as the lockers arent gonna be fitted until the molaah situation increases :)

Fit a Hilux Airlocker. Its a cheaper alternative and a simple mod.

Meaning fit the entire hilux third member (by redrilling the housing) and just get the 30spline axles from jac mac.

And yes I feel your pain. Jac Mac customer service is farkin terrible. Basically if you dont know exactly what you are after and exactly what the proper name for it is then you got no chance.

try going there, you spend a lot of time just looking at each other, blank looks and no chat.
BUT , its still a very sound engineered product.
i don't understand how the hilux longfields woulod fit in??
i won't be going down this route, but it does interest me :?
any ideas, i searched the threads (pirate and outerlimits) and still couldn't find info.

Yes Jeff is a PIA to talk to but the product is 1St class.

Much easier to talk to in person.

Maxi dont have an option to use the 30 spline axles.

If you want the 30spline set up you will have to talk to Jeff.

Option 1:
fit Toy centres to the RR housing. Benifit almost unlimited ratios available and far stronger R&P than the RR ones.
Use jacmac axles, (off the shelf for rear) and flanges.

Option 2:
Go with the maxi set up.

Option one is similar to the Mcnamara hypoid diff far stonger R&P and a vacuum locker (not any more though).

I am abit doggy doin the open diff work myself I dont mind anything else but that shit scares me and i have been told its a PITA.........
I will have to do some silent reaserch and when I am really ready and the time has come I will bring this topic up with what I have collected and hopefully you guys can help fine tune my selection....

Thanks People

Jac Mac makes an option to use toy CVs instead of the rover ones.

To do this he makes different inner axles, you have to bore out the spindles to fit the 30 spline CV stub shaft through and you have to use a toyota bronze bush, machine it a bit?? and press it into the spindle to support the toy CV. You abviously have to get the 30 spline drive flanges.

Once you got the setup to run the toy CVs the next logical step is to run longfields. Carnt see why it carnt be done.

Also Im almost absolutely certain you can run a standard toyota short side axle when doind this conversion. This axle is identical in length to the rover one (within a few mm). So to do the conversion you only need the jac mac long side alloy shaft. Cheaper also when you bust a CV and take out the inner shaft cause you can get another one from a toy wrecker.

Jac mac does a toy CV conversion.

The axles are $550.00 and 2 weeks delivery.

After 3 sets of Jeff's 4.7 Hypoids CWP in the last 5 years about 90,000 km in a 3.5 powered 90 Mock Up running 35 Muds 36 Swampers. Wouldn't buy another thing off him.

Solution would only run genuine Toyota (OE Quality) CWP. No problem with case hardeninng again and use Mark Hardman Axles, comes with appropriate ARB side gears to suit.

Apparently the JacMac only comes as an airlocker for the D2. Does anybody know if it has anything mounted on the outside of the diff housing or is it just the air hose like the ARB Airlocker? I'd ask JacMac, except it would take another fortnight for a reply.

I have a JacMac airlocker on the front diff of my Rangie. It simply has the airhose running into the top of the diff.

Thanks TuffRR. I also guess that the airlocker doesn't indicate if the locker has actually locked in also like I think the vac locker may do? (guessing by the lack of wires).

Your right, the light only indicates that i have pressed the button, not that the locker is engaged. I have found though that it is very quick to engage/disengage.

Jac mac air locker.

The Air Operated 4 Pinion Gear Locking Differential Carrier, can be manufactured to fit most conventional automotive differentials. The size of the Locking Ring makes this Diff Lock extremely STRONG in operation.
