single fuel pump installs for mpfi
Hey,
coz of a carby primer pump dieing in the install process i kept on with a single vl pump inline on the chassis rail.
only driven it up the road and back but it seems to hunt revs about 500rpm jumps and seems to settle down once stopped for a few secs, this is only when going up or down quick and maybe corners.
I am guessing this is from lowish fuel and sloshing around in tank,
any other owners have this issue? and where are your fuel filter/s mounted up. i am using a carby style before pump and a z200 efi after the pump, is this too much or do i need to buy and install the carby lift pump back inline between the vl and tank?
for a lift pump. is this ok

i dont use a lift pump at all, but i dont have a filter before the pump, only after, probably kill the pump quicker, but i think the pump doesnt like sucking through filters, so either use filter before and get lift pump, or ditch the pre filter, i havnt had any troubles since i put mine in, nearly a year now. thats with g13bb MPFI.

Fit a coil sierra fuel tank and a vitara pick up and you will have a bolt in EFI fuel system. The coil tank already has a kind of swirl pot in it and is designed for EFI use.
If you are still fabricating just put an EFI SWB vit tank in it, although this will require exhaust modifications and maybe rear shock crossmember relocation.
I have seen an number of EFI fuel solutions and they all seem really hack or take up too much space. tHe last three EFI cars I have worked on have all had vitara tanks fitted and that's what will be going into my 660 car.
A swimmer pump is the way to go.

nah not fabbing still, just fixing it up so it will run better.
I will try taking out the carby filter before the vl pump and reroute hose and see how that goes.
finding a coily tank for decent $ is on the want list, i take it they are a bolt in.

Many wreckers won't know what they have got - a coil tank looks like it won't connect up properly as it has a different breather set up to a leaf car so you might find one more easily than you expect.

Thanks for the info steve. I was going to put a efi Vitara tankl in my build and needed to know it was fine to do.... I know it's designed for the 1.6mpfi but I needed to make sure it had the same breathers and return as the 1.3 setup.

Does the Vitara efi tank and engine use the same size lines along the chassis rail as the carby 1.3??
We have never had a problem with hose blowoffs or anything.
The SWB efi vit tank is a fairly snug fit across the width of the car. On Greg's friend's cousins sisters boyfriends build we made up a very convoluted exhaust that puts the muffler across the car in front of the tank (roughly above the rear axle) and the exhaust runs on top of the chassis rail beside the tank, but to do it we raised the floor in the back of the car 4" (also to raise the tank and to fit the shock mounts with a flat floor. Car also has a 2" BL, so the floor is 6" hight off the chassis than stock.
If you dumped the exhaust in front of the rear wheel it would be easier, but not legal.
Greg's green car had a LWB tank fitted like a drop tank (through the floor) behind the front seats. had to move the shocks to do it and built a false floot over it, but it was very cool. Exhasut ran below it. (no muffler, only a cat and hot dog as that was a turbo car)

Electric Facet style pumps have always worked well for me - when i have used them on other cars running one (or multiple) webers. Never tried them on EFI.
Not sure with the Zuk carbie, but i imagine it would be the same?
Normally ran it by bypassing the crummy 'in-tank' pump, no prefilter, pump as close to the tank as possible, inline fuel filter, and straight into a good quality fuel regulator (so you dont have the fuel constantly running into the carby).
I have even ran a sneaky 'kill switch' under my seat or somewhere else(before immobilisers - gee thats a while ago now) so that i could park, switch the pump off, and if anyone wanted to steal the car they would be able to drive approx 10 metres before the car would run outta gas!
