How about having state comps with a National final, entry fees from the state rounds go to transporting rigs to National final therefore no long Sierra trips and spreads the costs. Three or four rounds per state, maximum of four entries per driver therefore ppl can go from state to state if they want but can't enter more then others who don't want to go too far.

Got your E-mail today Adam. Started sorting out parts this arvo, as i have a bazillion spare parts from previous builds. I am considering getting a $200 un-rego bomb, for the chassis and body. I already have my previous SPUA setup, tyres, wheels and everything else from other stuff. If i get some time in the next few weeks might try to throw some together and see what it lloks like if i can find a donnor. Body mods, like cutting up guards, tube clips etc, whats the go there? I might of missed it.

pretty much whatever you want, I am considering if it is worth keping full tube out and having some sort of body ie front clip, doors and some of the rear minimum to keep them all looking pretty much zook, Wayne has a chassis with no body there and no doubt lots of others have similar left over bits, Chris and Chris for eg, so its a hard decision, need to have a face to face chat to some peoples, there seems to be a 50% split of oppinion herelay80n wrote:Got your E-mail today Adam. I might pull the zook I have here out and start building, need access to a welder though and cant do to much without a bender, but can get the engine etc running (coil I think) The idea is to get maybe 4 odd done and go drive some terrain and video some drives to get ideas and oppinions from people

Mmmm, that kiwi stuff looks fun, is that what you have in mind when you talk about tube buggies ?
You could start off running them together, than if the buggies are out classing the full body zooks, split them into a higher class.
I could see the full body (FB ) zooks ending up as buggies after a year or two of comp' anyway.
Interesting with the nav and what to me looked like hand brakes for each wheel. who needs lockers. trust the kiwis to think of that.

hope to build a couple of rigs in the next couple of months, in the next couple of weeks a few of us will sit down and go throgh the draft rules and expand, this all wont happen over night but we will get it moving slowly and update you all as we get things done

The classes are explained in there somewhere and there is a brief outline of the scoring. Its awesome fun only having very short but very technical hazards. There are 7 classes. G class is very rarely competed in because you would trash a registered vehicle.

I'd love to go in something like this. I'm in QLD though... But I definetly travel ie maybe as far as rover park (5-6hrs)...
Theres a few places around SE qld/ NE nsw janowen hills, the springs, lcmp, rover park etc etc...

As for tyre size, if you make the tracks a decent difficulty, and keep the sierra diff rule, who's gonna be stupid enough to rock up with 37's on standard suzuki diffs and expect to finish without breakages, or even finish?
why not leave tyre size open. This allows people who want to run 32's/33's (even 34's though i doubt there is many running them) to have a go.

Keeping the comp really tight and open to those with a small budget is really going to be the winner in terms of success in the event staying alive, as soon as its opened to selectable lockers modified suspension, changes in wheelbases and tires it becomes a rich mans sport again. Having minimal allowed mods is the key, I would even restrict diff gearing to what was the highest gearing from factory or something along those lines. Tire size rule is a good one two cos just because its a 31 Simex means its going to be the best in the rocky conditions either so it will add a certain amount of trial and error to the sport.
It should stay as Suzuki as possible with the main money only having to be spent on:
Roll cage and safety gear.
Crawler gears.
31" tires.
Also making the rules very clear and not open to interpretation or manipulation is the key. I run into this issue when dealing with the ANDRA book inspecting drag cars regards to rules and modifications often. I agree in making a certain rule to this Steve but this sorta cuts out the guys that might need to travel a longer distance and camp for weekends and bringing all their gear, for instance if I was to try make a few events coming from the N.T I wouldn't drive down to VIc in a NT 1.0 Sierra with a Full cage, I would trailer it down but be able to prove that it has registration.Gwagensteve wrote: simple rule - if it arrives on a trailer, plates or not, it is trailer. Leaving open the tire size means people with more money will be able to work at a better advantage and then creates a whole class move to simply have the best rig with 37" tires where as 31"s keep the spending down and skill levels up, A careful driver with the biggest diff gears crawler gears and locked will have a far better chance than some one on 31"s in rock sections any time even if they take it slow...Dee wrote:
