MU motors

Post by chimpboy »

Hi, quick question for you Isuzu guys. I used to have a 2.6 petrol MU, but haven't had much to do with the diesels.

Just wondering, between the 2.8 and the 3.1, is the 3.1 drastically to be preferred or is it not that much of a difference?

Also, with the 2.8, are there any relatively straightforward engine swaps?

I miss the MU really, and I'm thinking of downsizing my Maverick. In retrospect a locker or two is all these things need to be much more respectable off-road imho.

The 2.8 MU’s are cheaper and easer for parts you can buy a brand new motor for $2500 and as for power there not much different. I got 3 MU’s 1 petrol and 2 diesels the petrol is heavy on fuel the diesel gets about 8.5L per 100k

Thanks Pig. Are there any easy or common upgrades for the 3.8, for example a relatively bolt-on turbo?

(They are n/a stock, right?)

The 2.8 and 3.1 are both turboed, an intercooler helps

Up the boost.
Up the fuel.
Add an intercooler.

Mine makes 100Hp and 880lb-ft at the wheels.
