wierd noise, help needed

Post by kurzo »

hey guys,

i was just on my way home tonight and started hearing a noise under the car when drive with a bit of speed in 3th and 4th gear, didnt want to push it up to try 5th, but its like a ssshhh... ssshhh... ssshhh noise that is only under power and with a bit of speed.

i drive an 89 Patrol SWB, TD42, 5 speed manual, 4.1 ratios and 35's on the road

has anybody had this or might know what it is,
im thinking its only unis and hopefully not gearbox or diff.

cheers, sam.

yeah it sorta sounds like some air or some really light metal scrapping,
it was just normal driving around, ill be checking everything in the morn, but if it was the exhaust somewhere wouldnt it make the same noise in 1st and 2nd when giving it a bit?

i guess so. it cant be pinion bearing because it rumble when its on its way out and bearing behind handbrake will leak usually before makin a noise similar. i'd count out wheel bearing as there a metalic sound too when there on there way out.
