Not my new Hilux
Just put a 2L Motor into my new hilux 1984 Single Cab. The motor came out of my old 86 Dual Cab. The motor was A1 and never had any real problem, but last night when i had everything going right well thought i had everything right. I reversed it out into the driveway shut the gates when all of a sudden it started to rev up clouds of white smoke was coming out of the exhaust. Then motor just shut down. Try to start it again and it would turn once and stop turn key again turn once then stop. I checked oil level and oil was about 6 inches up the stick. I don't know if i have done something wrong when hooking it all up or if there is a seal betwen the diesel pump and the engine, because that might explain the oil gain and higher compression. Also would explain the rev up with air getting into the fuel line and leaning it out. If any one has got any ideas please let me know any help would be appreciated.
no offence but must have screwed up the reading of the dipstick. either didn't wipe the oil off before reinserting dipstick or had vechile on a slope when checking.
there is no connection between fuel and oil on those motors that i'm aware of. there is no way for it to make oil in a such short time.
as far as blowing smoke.......either timing has changed (slipped cam belt) or more likly an air lock in the fuel lines. pump the fuel up on the filter first. undo the injector pipes slightly and crank it over till fuel sprays out everywhere . tighten back up and start it.

no, you cant make 5 lites of oil into 9 litres of oil by heating it up. (well you would be a rich man if you could!)
is the oil milky in colour and is your coolant low, head gasket/head could have mised water and oil making the water low and the oil high.
stupid question was the vechicle level when filled and when checked the second time or on a slope in the drive etc.
the over revving and white smoke almounts sounds like too much]/i] fuel...
check the linkages on the fuel pump to make sure you dont have the air con idle up moving the throttle or the throttle may have been stuck.. not sure.

WTF, lowering the viscosity of the oil (thinning it) wont make more oil! The Compression also should not change due to oil level. Yes the oil does help the rings seal better, but not enough to stop it turning over. You didnt damage it with the over-rev did you? The govenor will stop it over-reving on fuel, but if you let it run on oil it can rev itself to death. There is no link between the oil and fuel system, to be honest it does sound like it has been overfilled with oil.
Layto....

Everything seems fine with head, would an air lock in the fuel line make it rev up at all, or could it be a faulty injector not spraying correctly and pumping more diesel into it?
It has me buggered when we did the transplant we didn't touch anything except the fuel side of things when we were priming it. One thing I did notice on my old ute the fuel pick line and the return line where on the same side but on the new one they are on seperate sides. Another stupid Question could have i Stuffed up the fuel lines. Blow into fuel pick up bubbles in tank blow down the return line no bubbles but air gets through.
Same oil that was in the engine before swap none has been added.

Drained oil last night took 12 ltrs of oil & diesel out So i think it could be a faulty injector. Refilled oil, then re-started it fired straight away. Jumped in drove it down the road alot of white smoke, after about 400 Mtrs smoke started to calm down a bit but still there little bit further and was alot better but still not right. Will do a little more work on it tonight.
