Just swap in a complete Disc diff assembly, it will be far simpler.BENNNO wrote:hey guys, anyone now where u can get a disk conversion kit for drum brake rear gq diffs?

Re: disk conversion for gq
I think you may have to do a master cylinder change to suit the rear disc's with that swap as well.MKPatrolGuy wrote:Just swap in a complete Disc diff assembly, it will be far simpler.BENNNO wrote:hey guys, anyone now where u can get a disk conversion kit for drum brake rear gq diffs?

Re: disk conversion for gq
Yes totally...but from what understand a disc/disc m/cyl is about $300 and a disc/drum m/cyl I paid $70 new. Just something extra to think about.MKPatrolGuy wrote:Still be simpler than adapting discs to the current housingeighty8 wrote:I think you may have to do a master cylinder change to suit the rear disc's with that swap as well.MKPatrolGuy wrote:Just swap in a complete Disc diff assembly, it will be far simpler.BENNNO wrote:hey guys, anyone now where u can get a disk conversion kit for drum brake rear gq diffs?

cool thanks fellas, there going under a M.Q master will have to be changed anyway i believe! ...just asking because there are some cheap gq's on here for sale but have drums in rear just tosing up price with ither trying to find some disc's all round or doin a conversion!!! or even just leaving them drums.... finding disc's all round would probably be easyer. cheers, Benno
...
If ya look around you can find a GQ rear housing w/factory locker for around $500 - 800 complete w/discs etc...

I changed the drums on mine to disc and it was a relatively easy task to do at home by swapping the entire assembly. The master does need to be changed too. I got a second hand one only to have to buy a brand new one not long after it failed and started leaking. I have to say didn't notice a big difference in braking power but at least I don't get mud stuck in the drums anymore.

just leave it drum. i know of a few comp trucks still running drums.
we dont have rain in qld let alone slop to clog them up and drums work just as well n are cheaper when you break em.
ps i have a drum rear 4 sale you can have it for $250 and i live just round the corner from u
