cant select 4wd ?

Post by Brenton »

hey guys i just got a high top holden drover, dec 84 model.freewheeling and lockable front hubs. Im new to suzuki's , the guy i got it of said that he had not been able to select 4wd since he got it but he was just using it to drive around his yard. i cant get it to select 4wd , i have had the front in the air and when the hubs are locked they spin both front wheels and when not just one like it supposed to. but the lever for 4wd wont budge more then 10mm forwards or backwards. i can pull it up a little bit but it all does nothing ?
anybody got and ideas for me or is the transfer case shot. maybe a oil change and it will free up.
please help lol
thanks brenton and hi to all.

Thsi happend to me but it got stuck in neutral!

I would say it's the rubber selector thing at the bottom of the transfer lever! :?

Would be the first thing i would look at!

Does the front shaft output flange move in and out , about 10 to 15 mm , this would indicate that the bearing might have been punched backwards jamming the shifter , have a look , cheers Paul.

This is a long shot, but worth checking - make sure the lever has been fitted properly.

If the lever gets dropped into the wrong gap when it's going back in you can end up with a stick that won't move and no other ranges can be selected.

They can be a bit tricky to line up sometimes.

Worth a look before you pull the case apart.
