GQ Reverse aux. light

Post by Vanhack »

I am trying to wire up a rear auxiliary light. I want to be able to have it on continuos from battery, will wire off the cab fusebox, as I have a spare fuse socket.

Also the light should switch on when reverse gear. I have found the diagrams for this ...and to have the reverse engage one has to splice off the reverse wire feed from the rear of the GQ, alternatively splice of the reverse switch from the transmission.

Anyone know where this switch is located up near the cab, as I am too lazy to lay wire all the way back and I can locate my 3-way rocker switch, relay near the cab, feed a wire from the fuse box, and just lay a wire from the relay to the light and ground the light at rear.

I believe if you remove the gearboot you will see the reverse "switch" and can splice into it from there.
It's simple: questions are inherently good. Your questions... not so much

Also, you can get to the wire where it runs under the bonnet in the big bunch of connectors next to the battery.

This may be a dumb question, but how does one check whether the wire is the correct one if it is insulated. E.G. I engage the reverse gear and want to find the live wire from the connectors. (According to the wiring diagram the reverse light wire is G/W (assume that it is green with white)) then without splicing the wire how would I check????

multi meter with a spike sensor on the +ve and earth the -ve on the car. Get the G/W wire spike the insulator with the multi meter sensor and get a mate to engage and dis-engage reverse. You will see the reading jump on and off. Once finished just tape up the small pin prick hole to stop water etc getting in (or use the insulation wound to splice into if you have the correct wire

success

Post by patrollin »

Hi all, I had alot of success following this post when I wired up my extra reversing spot.

Found that green/white trace wire in main loom, put a pin in it, then put testlamp to pin, & tried reverse. Worked a treat, & just a pinhole left in wire.

Saved having to run a feed wire all the way from reverse light.
