Hey guys asking a Quick Question 4 a mate...
He has a 86 Rover it is over heating up to 130c when 4wdriving but he has replaced all the heating and water pump system reco Radiator ECT
Dose anyone have any idears...

Umm i am no car person that is what he has just told me and i seen it. Is shocking how ho it gets...
Can i ask what you mean by the head or a liner
He did tell me it it ok when your driving on the road the tep only go's up to around 80 witch sounds about right it only hit 120/130 when he is 4wding and reall giving it dont no if that will help you

if its only getting hot when its at high load/low road speed (ie in low range 4wd) it could be something as silly as the viscous fan hub. The concern i would have is that is is topped 130deg he may have already stuffed it.
Head as in cylinder head. They warped/cracked if they get to hot. If they warp or crack they can allow combustion gases into the cooling system which makes the engine get very hot very quick. If its okay when driving normally it doest sound like a blown head gasket of cracked head tho.
Get you mate to spin the engine fan (with the engine off) and see if it spins freely. There should be resistance. if not the viscous fluid may have leaked out.
Also get him to pull the dipstick and make sure the eng oil isn't milky.

I might be wrong but I am guessing that it is not a thermo fan but the air con fans which are on the front side of the radiator.
My Rangie was always overheating until I put proper thermo's in it. The AU fans fit nicely, Seems to be better if they suck not blow!
And make sure the thermo's have a shroud around them.

You say reco radiator. Was that rebuilt? if not check for scale build up in the radiator just reverse flushing wont get rid off the heavy build up.
Timming should be checked as well as fuel mixture. Check the engine oil levels as well.
Check to make sure the guage as actualy accurate and your not getting a faulty reading mine did that told me it was 130 degree and in fact was sitting on 68.
you shouldnt turn the aircon on 4wding, if it getting hot open the windows and put the heating on full boar, if that cools the engine its definatly a radiator or fan issue.

Over about 30kmh the roadspeed does all the work of flowing air through the radiator, but below that the fan has to push air through.
Hence when 4WDing you are completely reliant on the fan for cooling.
So, whether it's a thermo or an a/c fan or whatever, it sounds like it could definitely be a fan performance problem.
Is the fan properly mounted to the radiator? If the housing is not hard up against the radiator (or the gap is padded with foam or similar) then it could just be blowing air out the sides. This is a pretty common mistake when people fit electric fans; the air has to have nowhere to go at all except through the radiator.
Personally I am a fan of electric fans in road vehicles but not so much in 4WDs; engine driven fans are a safer bet imho. But regardless it sounds like a fan issue.

If you are going down the twin thermo route just get a pair of fake EL Ford thermos, with shroud, for $195 ish and do away with the fan off the water pump. Do a search on this site for more info. You will also need at least one temperature switch and a couple of relays. Works incredibly well.
