gas turbo in winch comps.
gas turbo in winch comps.
for the comp guys mainly.
how does running straight gas on a TB42 turbo go for the day or weekend? as most comps are away from gas carrying petrol stations. how is the consumption through the event. i dont care about economy just tossing up between converting to EFI turbo or throwing on straight gas and a 150 litre tank and get rid of fuel. are there any reliablility issues to contend with during whinch events with all (Dr. frink voice on)the water and mud and hivon claven.(Dr. Frink voice off)
cheers

turbos are nice but i'd rather be blown
I had a 100L usable LPG on my Dual Fuel Maverick. i got 450-500K's around town and between 700-800 on the freeway.
If you go straight Gas u can get better figures.
if your going straight gas, either get a gas research carby or get an EFI manifold and throttle body and do it that way.

ive got twin tanks, but long distance travel is always a bit of a worry.
I'm thinking of getting spare gas tanks like off the forklifts and changing over tanks, not sure how it will work, but looking into it. There only bout 60lt but could be enough to keep you going.
Thats the only problem with gas, otherwise its great, dosnt cut out on steep angles, which is great. After owning a carby model before hand.

I got turbo tb42 and i filled up last night and i use 33L per 100k's at this stage but i have been driving it fairly hard
Rick..
I only got 90L useable and i'm worried how i'm going to go anywere as my range would be 270kms
Anyone got sources or sites or anything on those forklift bottle as u can fit one under drivers side and then run another 60L right in the back and then u would be fine for longer trips !
Cheers
Rick..
Maybe everyone needs to put there heads together and try find a source for Forklift Bottles on the cheaper side not brand new ones becuase that might be the key to keep fuel up these thirsty animals..

When i had my car on dual fuel and it was tunned and all new plugs and everything in that area got 350kms to 90L gas..
Now i get 270kms to tank with the turbo..
Rick.
EFI heads also have a very very slight increase in compression. the Carby has 8.3:1 and the EFI had 8.5:1.
As for my patrol getting 450-500 around town and 700-800 on freeway i don't really know how i got it. i had a Sprint gas setup, it had a rather large LPG converter that apparently was more designed for big V8's, ran it pretty low on the gas cause a 4.2L doesn't pull all that much into the engine.
I also had a bit of head work done when it cracked, had new Gas valves installed, all hardened for use with straight gas systems. Added to that i had a Crane Cam Electronic ignition system installed to the dizzy, which gave me alot cleaner spark. Lastly i got extractors and a 2.5" straight though exhaust system.
I now have a Diesel and looking at turboing that baby.
