Twin shocks
Hi I was after some advice on making a mount to run twin shocks at the front on a gq patrol and any problems that may occur etc. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks Steve
Shock hoops
Steve, there are many variations of twin shock mounts / shock hoops available on the market. Its quite hard to expalin in detail what you need to do, however you need to take into conscideration whether you want them side by side, apart, are you incorporating a spring/s etc.
I know a few people with GQ's who have modified the original mount and added some extra bracing to incoprate the extra shock in a side by side arrangement. Mind you, they still used the coil spring and re-inforced that mount also. It is working well for them.
Rahter than starting from scratch, try and improve the original setup first to make things easier for yourself.

I put twin shocks under the front of my old shortie Nissan and it transformed the car, heaps less rebound, I was actually able to drive fast up hill with the front wheels on the ground, I know a lot of people say its unnecessary but everyone I know who has done it loves it and wouldn't go back.

I'd love duals on the rear of my disco. I've had my Bilsteins revalved so they are a hell of a lot stiffer and it handles like its on rails in the rough stuff now. The down side is that it flogged out the rose joints pretty quickly and since I've changed the mounts to rubber they flogged out even faster. Now trying urethane so it'll be interesting to see how they go. But, if you want suspension and body control then I would definately recommend doing dual shocks as it lessens the wear on the shocks and improves the traction by heaps.
On the Patrol can you go up through the middle of the front springs like how Rovers are setup?

My setup is very similar to the above pics. Also when you look at the wieght of a Patrol, even with ultra expensive coilovers etc, there is still 2 shocks! From what I can find out a Patrol is just too heavy for a single shock to be able to control it at high speed off road.
93 Nissan Pathfinder / Terrano Turboed VH45, GQ Trans and T-case, coil overs, hydraulic winch and fair bit of other stuff. (Currently a pile of parts in the workshop)
