2007 CQ Offroad Challenge

Post by L948 »

The CQ Offroad Challenge is on again. The dates have been set for the 25th-26th August at Seonee Park just out of Rocky. The same location as the XWC series.

This is a 3 car team event consisting of 10 SS on the saturday, 2 night SS and 2 SS on the sunday for a midday wrapup and presentation. Max of 12 teams. $300 per team. Trophies for SS winners and 1st, 2nd and 3rd overall. Entries are NOT yet open.

This is a Logan Challenge style event but with mainly driving stages. The stages are close to XWC standard but keeping in mind roll cages are not compulsory for our event so no big side angles should be encountered. Helmets are compulsory.

We are expecting 500-1000 spectators for the weekend based on last years numbers with full camping facilities available onsite. For more info keep your eyes on our website cqoffroad.org.au or contact Vince Morice or Ian Davison on 0428 450678 or 0408 500194 respectivly.

Good work Davo!!

The Logan Club looks like having a team for this one. Can't wait, should be good to be on the other side of the stop watch!

Just a quick question in regards to safety equip... Are you making window nets compulsory as well as the helmets?

Cheers mate, see ya up in Rocky. ;)

G'day Simon, No mate. Window nets are not required. Max tyre size is 36" as well. There maybe water encountered on some stages as well. Nothing real deep. Approx 0.5 - 0.8m

Will be great to see you guys come north and check out our backyard.

No worries Davo.

Our guys are right for window nets anyway, but just thought I'd ask the question to clear up for others.

Sounds like a top event mate. Just, don't make it better than the L.C, hey???

You guys coming down for ours this year?

No sorry to say Simon. Most of our team is tied with the xwc this year but your more than welcome to do some promoting for your event (Hand out promo stuff etc) when you come up. Try and get the word out to other local teams who compete in our comp.

Another question, have you thought about raising the limit for tyres? If so, we're in, if not, I guess we're out.

Corry,

Tyre size is 36" maximum - NOT NEGOTIABLE. Guess that you'll have to steal the rubber off one of your other 80's eh ?

Well ! It's full steam ahead now.

Dukesy and Davo has sussed out virgin country @ Seeonee with GREAT spectator vantage points for the 2007 Challenge. New tracks, lots of spectator "encouragement", the nuances of Team Competition and the pressure of a ticking stopwatch - I can't wait.

Nominations have been flowing in steadily so don't stand around thinking about it too much longer if you haven't already sent in your form & money DO IT NOW !

The Committe are putting the finishing touches to the Rules & Regulations over the next week or so - will post them (snail mail & www) when complete.

Here's a tip for competitors - KNOW YOUR GPS !!!!!

Hey, just a quick one
As per the rules on your website do all trucks with a winch need the list of recovery gear as stated for a 'Winch vehicle' or is it just one nominated truck per team and the others have the minmum kit.

Cheers

Any vehicle with a winch requires the full recovery kit as stated in the rules, and trust me you will need your recovery gear this year! Lots of it. Almost every stage has at least one winch wall with some having more. Some long and some short.

There will be water up to 600mm deep on one or two stages as well so make sure you're vehicle's are waterproofed!

940mm at 24 psi. If your tyre is equal to or under that then you are right to compete.

As you can see we are real happy with the choice of pick up driver, if we do not arrive back at base, don't look for us. But if you do Glenmore would be the first place to start.

Cheers

Have just arrived home from a great!!!!!! weekend. Below are my comments:-

Teams:- What a great bunch of competitors, they really got themselves involved with this event, they were a lot more laid back then a lot of competitors in other events I have seen. I did not hear one comment from them regards any penalties they may have received. All were very helpfull and only too willing to assist each other & other teams over the weekend.

Vehicles:-
Apart from some having open diffs and no winches they were all set up very nicely and well and truley able to compete in this event. Some of the truck are only missing a cage and harness to be able to compete in the next XWC. I see a very big entry into Round 2 at next years XWC from the CQ locals.
The biggest problem I saw with vehicle set up were the winches. The trucks had a lot of work done to them but the poor old winch & electrical circuit were often neglected and let some teams down, so next time guys make sure that little thing at the front is serviced and in good working condition.

Spectators:- Great crowd and I am quite sure that they all enjoyed the 4wd display that you put on. 99.99% of the crowd were great, but it only takes a few to spoil it, so to those .01 of you, please try and grow up, and maybe you will join the rest of the 99.99% of the people having a great weekend.

I would like to congratulate all the members of the CQ Offroad Club on a great event that you put on. The set up for the weekend was very impressive and professional. The SS that were set were very well laid out and testing on the Teams while not being the result of vehicle damage, which was caused by driver error.

Overall the weekend was a total success for the CQ Offroad Club and I can see a very healthy future for competitive 4wding in the CQ area and futhur north.

Good one guys and ladies, and thanks for looking after me over the weekend.

THANKS TO THE GENTLEMEN FOR THE PIZZA SATURDAY NIGHT PLUS THE GUYS THAT GAVE ME A COUPLE OF SOUTHERNS!!!!!!!!!

Cheers

Dave,

Thanks for taking time out from your (very) busy schedule to join us in Rockhampton for the 2007 CQ Off Road Challenge. Your constructive comments/observations and genuine praise were very well received by the Event Organisers. I am sure that you will share your positive experience with others and perhaps inspire them to join us as Competitors, Marshalls or Spectators next year ! A MASSIVE thanks to all of our Sponsors, Volunteers, Marshalls and Competitors for making the event such a success.

I'm certain that the competitors will unanimously agree that it's the stop watch that damaged cars - not the tracks !!!!!!!!!!!

I'm glad that you enjoyed your Pizza and Southern Comfort courtesy of some friendly locals. Thanks for jumping into the MC role with such enthusiasm !

Overall Team Placings will be posted here on OL later today and full stage by stage results will be available later this week on www.cqoffroad.org.au

Cheers !
