DVD

Post by Hobzee »

Re the DVD - On Wednesday last week we got the call to give the DVD a final thumbs up. Got the preview DVD home Thursday night and watched half. Friday night watched the other half - all very excellent. Emailed Fuzzy over the weekend to say all good and production started today in ernest. We pick up the first batch wed/thur for posting out. It's been worth the wait and Fuzzy have agreed that they will be out a bit quicker in future. He doesn't charge much for the production (mates rates) and he has done a stack of great work. So I guess the pay off is a bit of a delay as they do the other paying jobs. Believe me, 80% of our marketing is in a good timely DVD and we want it out like by the time we get home too. Thanks for being patient and enjoy the DVD...

OK guys, we need to know numbers for catering etc. We have a stack of Marshals on stand by and if we get more rigs we will get more marshals. But we need to tell them now so they too can make plans and Kevin from West Darling Hotel can sort out food and camp fire cleansers. If you are planning on coming but just not got around to entering please shoot me a PM or call me on 0413 993 597. We can work out the $ later - just need the numbers now, that's all.

The conditions are ideal this year. This will be the best for mud soft sand and vegetation after all of the May rains they had.

Greg from Broken Hill 4wd wreckers will be there in Rangie and the White Cliffs general store owner is entering a Patrol ute. Robbie Mathieson from BH is in too. The station owners son (Brian) is competing and the next door neighbour (120,000 acres now also avaiable on top of what we already had) will be there with the Wilcannia and White Cliffs CFA. The West Darling Hotel will be there (Food and grog) as well as the Olivers from Silver City 4WD and Neil (the BH Auto Elec). So the locals are giving it a big push. Of the big smoke competitors Adelaide is leading the way followed by Brisbane, then Perth. Sydney and Melb must still be getting used to the cold and rain... or maybe the tracks in Gembrook are slippery and they are getting their fill closer to home...

I'm suprised this event hasn't filled up quicker. For an event of it's magnitude and quality and it's attracting some high profile teams, it's definetly an event on the TO DO list.
Who's in???

who's not in and why?????

Ruff i think you know the answer to that question. I also think it's a great event, but the dates are to close to other already well established big events, of some what larger magnitude. I don't think i'll be back untill 2009 if the dates remain as they are.

Dates

Post by Hobzee »

Did you know this is the only week in the year that 3 states have school holidays at the same time, short of Christmas. No other event is on at the same time. Agreed, some events are close but let's face it there are only some 30 rigs in Ateco out of how many rigs in the country ?? I have also been told some cant afford Outback as well as Cliffhanger - fair enough. Most people can't afford Outback full stop. We are going to keep it at this week and it will just be slower to grow ... Doesn't worry us so much as we are trying to get the right ingredients in this event and we seem to be on the right track. I think next year there will be some 500 people say they are doing OBC 10th anniversary but maybe 50 will go. Dont know what will happen with the other 450. And yes, this too will eat into Cliffhanger 08. But over the 05 to 08 years we would have perfected the routines, come up with the most amazing and spectacular stages and novel approaches to strategies and planning a special stage that in '09 we will be ready for a great big year .... on this week, being the 2nd week of July.

Lights

Post by Hobzee »

Oh yes, I forgot to mention, I was talking to Steve at On4toU today and he says that he started accummulating HID light prizes in the corner of the office. Apparently now that corner has become that side of the room. Maybe Steve can elaborate, but he and Rudi have worked out prizes even for spectators and marshals. Thanks to Steve and Gill for their valued contributions at On4toU - HID lights - gotta love that !

ok we'll try to elaborate a bit. There are headlight and driving light hid upgrades on offer for the top prizes. In addition to that there are headlight inserts, spot lights, led lights, stickers, t-shirts, globes lollies and other novalties. I think all up the prize pool from On 4 to U will retail for in excess of $3000-. As well as the usual major prizes we will be offering a prize for the best presented comp vehicle and the best presented spectator vehicle. (why should the spectators miss out, they still have to pay to be there) These will be judged by Mrs On 4 to U (Gill) and little miss On 4 to U (Jaz 6 y/o) so if your colour scheme includes purple and pink you should do well. Also we are offering a prize for the marshalls (they do all the hard work and definately shouldn't miss out) And in liason with Nic and Danni there will be a number of small prizes on offer throughout the week. So get your entries in and let the games begin.

Using other events as an excuse is just a cop out i reckon.. I'm not saying that people should be able to afford the TIME or money to do OBC and Cliff hanger. What i am saying is.. 43 entrants at OBC. say 40 for Ateco. Even if they were all different competitors that's ONLY 83 cars. Where's everyone else????????????

I'm sure people like Todd, Krimnl, coighty and the Evans brothers will back me up in saying that you can't compare the OBC to the Cliff hanger. Similar terrain, yes But totally different events. Different stratergies, different approaches different in so many ways that it's not fair to compare them.
We'll be there next year, and the year after.. I'm keen to see this event grow and grow it will albeit slowly. Teething problems still maher the OBC so Cliff hanger can't be expected to run perfectly straight off the bat.

You've got a legitimate reason Paul, I'm not refering to people like yourself, but the rest of you get off your butts and get along to one of the best events in the country, even if it's just to support someone else. Pack up the family or fill the cars with beer and some mates. You wont regret it.

Dan the man. Well said , you can't compare the 2 as you said similar terrain but way different orginisation, Rudi and Hobzee run a top event very casual and laid back and stress free, with a top atmosphere for all to enjoy, with hardly any teething problems to speak of.
OPP'S it just the date thing.
Never mind as i said i will be back in 09

DVD

Post by Hobzee »

Hey Team the DVD is out. To avoid waiting for couriers I caught a Taxi on Friday to Fuzzy to pick up the DVDs (no one drives their own car anywhere near the city in Melb on a friday afternoon - it's a 3 hour drive home if you do - and those Sydney siders who reckon they are the only ones with bad traffic - suck eggs). (Oops, getting side tracked ... )

So we have DVDs in Monday's mail to those who ordered them. Call me on 0413993597 a/h if you want one... $35

Haven't forgotten you Botty, we just think of Tassie as a Victorian island. But yes everyone, we have the Tassie Boys there and they are going for the most drunk and standing prize .. and will be the first ones we breath test in the mornings...

2 more teams entered today

DVD's dropped in for all those who have ordered in the Langwarrin Mailbox tonight.

I just watched the finished version tonight. Fantastic apart
from Lockee's comment that I reside in the caves at the property :bad-words:

Good one noodle! I will bide my time.

DVD

Lockee, good thing Rob did some discreet editing ...

By the way everyone, base camp was 1 foot under water a month ago and the creek was at that point was 35 feet deep. Water is down to the point where you can drive along the creek but it is still flowing in the deepest parts. If you can recall the night run up the creek last year, that is still possible but there will be about 20 places where you cross the water. It will be gated to show the bits we tested and deem ok to cross.

I have some ideas and need 2 x water pumps. Can any one source these please?

Got some buggies entering - very cool. Why not! So long as they meet the CCDA safety rules. Will need lights for night driving and GPS. Because of the water and mud we will tend to favour the high areas, in particular the rocks so the buggies will be right in their element.

Talk about being organised and looking after the people at Cliffhanger.

Kevy our caterer from Broken Hill just sent me this:

I will have a 5kva and 2kva generators (I intend to have a meal area [under cover] with lighting, gas heating [jet blower unit], TV and DVD to watch 4x4 DVD’s. This tent area will have fluro lighting and be a general area for people to gather, eat and have fun.

I will have a large refrigerator trailer for food and bar supplies and other items that need refrigeration. The 5kva gene will run that all day and provide some backup to lighting, The 2kva is for general use, TV/DVD and other appliances.

When we quadruple checked the DVD for errors, when the credits came up it was a natural, "right - it's late, let's go home" - not thinking to check the credits DOH!

It would appear that Chris and Dan (KJ's Yellow wagon) didn't get mentioned as the =3rd place. We also ommitted to include B Class scores. Somehow, wires got crossed between Rudi's score keeping cave and Fuzzy's hi-tech studio. As the checker I guess I am as much to fault for not picking it up.

Apologies to all - we will see what we can do to fix.

Other than that, all good... Better than others I am told ...
