sorry thats in US dollars which is 1,121.44 AUD hmmm
so lets see
the gear costs - 1,121.44
Customs duty (Duty) @ 5% - 56.072
= 1177.512
transport = 300
= 1477.512
Goods and Services Tax (GST) @ 10 per cent - 147.7512
total tax = 203.8232 ..... which is BULLSH!T
total = 1625.2632
so where do i go to pay this .... tax

Just get them to sent it via UPS or DHL or some simmilar you only pay duty if it is not usa made due to the free trade agreement but the supplier has to note this on there invoice and if you get them to invoice the freight seperate it will work out better but even better if you keep it under 1 thousand dollars you will not pay duty or gst.But if it's over 1 thousand dollars and usa made you still pay GST
Get them to send <$1000 worth to you, and <$1000 worth to your brother, cousin, parent, workmate, whoever and you're under the threshold, and no tax. Might pay a bit more for freight but probably less than the tax.
Just a thought.
Alternatively, ask them to invoice it itemised with a higher freight charge and a lower charge for the goods.

This is not legal advice.
Half my suspension is imported, the tax and customs charges can get pretty nasty, with electronic entry charge, tradegate charge, tradegate GST, GST, have a chat to a customs broker, they should be able to talk you through whats involved, I used IFB network in Matraville for my stuff, they were really helpful.
ive never had issues and i get a lot from the US. my sister lives there. if an item is "used" there is no duty i get her to open stuff and the like and label it as gear i or dad left there. also gifts do not get taxed

It's simple: questions are inherently good. Your questions... not so much

what are you importing? is it made in the US?
australia is currently under a free trade agree with the US if the item is made in the US you probably wont have to pay duty.
for example. if you bought a popcorn machine made in the US no duty applies. however should you buy only the spare parts you probably will.
keep it under $1K and you wont pay GST or "handling"

Mate if they send it thru USPS then it will come thru aus post here and they work out the customs charges etc if it is over 1k.
If thru UPS or fedex they do the same they work it out call you and ask for payment before delivery all you need to do is tell them they are for offroad use and US origin best to tell the supplier to put it on there invoice.
Unles you organise the friegth yourself most of the companys do it for you.

To claim USFTA you need a certificate from the supplier that contains the invoice number and has to include the FTA bylaw on it, duty and gst will apply after $1000 AUD so about US $820 or so. Certain goods attract differet duty rates but gen rate is 5%. GST is calculated on cost of goods+freight+duty, small items i would use DHL or Fedex .Modified Toy wrote:Just get them to sent it via UPS or DHL or some simmilar you only pay duty if it is not usa made due to the free trade agreement but the supplier has to note this on there invoice and if you get them to invoice the freight seperate it will work out better but even better if you keep it under 1 thousand dollars you will not pay duty or gst.But if it's over 1 thousand dollars and usa made you still pay GST

Not 100% correct the only time you will need the documents is when customs ask for them. 99% of the time if its got on the invoice 4wd parts US origin then customs are ok with it. esp when it is such small amount of money when its big orders then it pays to get the documents.
