Leaking diff oil around air locker fitting

Anybody know if its a big job to replace or fix (high temp selaer/silicon/plumbers tape) the brass fitting screwed into my diff, as its weaping oil out. Gets to the point there is a hanging drip from the diff, and the diff is all covered in oil.

I check the oil level regulary and no problems with it running dry, but more a pain in the behind.

How old is the locker? This makes a difference. The new style is easy to fix the older style is a little harder and has risks involved.

Locker would have been put in 2004 or early 2005, so Id say its the newer style?

Then its possible its the new style. Its not real easy to tell from the outside. Do you remember if the Oring housing bolted to the side of the locker or did it have a spring clip full float style? If you still have the install paperwork it will show you in this.

If its the Spring type then its as easy as undoing the line, then undoing the nut that goes into the housing. Be carefull here as there is a very small oring sitting down in this nut that seals the line when they are done up tight. It is best to replace this oring as well. Place some sealant on the threads and screw the fitting back in making sure the copper line comes just through the inside. Re-fit the oring then bolt the line back in.

If its the bolt on housing. Then its more dificult as the nut that goes into the housing also has a nut that is bolted in from the inside and instead of an oring they have a ferral fitting. So you can really only back the main nut out a little and then try and get some sealant on the thread and bolt it back in. You need to be carefull that you dont pull ther copper line out on this type as its possible to move the line on the inside and have it rub through on the crown wheel or hemisphere. This type is prob best left to someone who has done it before if your not too confident.

The other common cause for the oil leaking from here is that it may have been hit by something and cracked the fitting. If this is the case it can turn into a pull the centre out job to fix it.

Thnaks for that Ruff, but to be honest, I didnt install the locker myself, and the guy that did, thru the paperwork out, so I cant really say which style it is.

I will have a look on the weekend and see if I can figure out which one it is by looking at the barb, if not, I'll suss it from there.

If you undo the line from the fitting and look down into the fitting you should be able to see the oring.

This is the fitting thats leaking, with the rigid spring moved outta the way.

Which type of locker is it, can you tell?

So which part is it leaking from can you tell? If its one of the top 2 its real easy to fix. I can not tell if its early or late from that pic sorry.

The oil appears to be leaking around the joint between the fitting and the diff, and also from the middle joint ( where the diff-fitting steps down to the smaller size).

Is that any help Ruff?
