do you hvae a glow timer that might be on the fritz?
or do you have a manual override button which you press to glow?
if you search forum.ih8mud.com for "wilson switch" you can integrate a manual override into your glow circuit.. might help you glow and start first time everytime.
i think the glow plugs on my 40 were on their way out, so i'd press this button for 1thousand2thousand...up to 5 and it would catch first time everytime.

They had different glow plug systems fitted. There was a slow glow and quick glow system. Model and production date detemine correct glow plugs to be fitted. You may have some not working thats why it takes a few go's or a voltage drop problem in the system.

glow plugs
There are 6v and 11v glow plugs. I think you should have the 6v ones. I bought new glow plugs for my 60 and they gave me 11v ones it then took ages to glow. With the 6v ones glowed real quick.
Hope this helps
