5lt Windsor transplant
I tried the search thing but didn't get far!
I want to put the 5lt and 4spd auto out of my 1993 Fairlane into my F100.
Is there an aftermarket system i should use and what costs would i be up for?
Would i be better off selling the motor and putting in a carby fed motor?
Carl.

Personally I'd go EFI over carby every time.
Also just my personal approach, but I would get it all in and working with the standard Fairlane electronics, ECU etc, and only worry about aftermarket engine management later. This would be assuming you have all of it to start with.
If you only have engine and gearbox, and no ECU/loom, then you might as well start with an aftermarket ECU setup like Wolf or Megasquirt, but you are up for pretty big $$$ for the wolf, and need lots of skill for the megasquirt.
I've never worked with one of these motors though, so I am not sure if it needs any of the trickier sensors like a speed sensor, or just the more standard that's on the engine itself.

This is not legal advice.
Did you need to replace the sensors or just use the existing ones?jet-6 wrote:I set up an Autronic SMC onto a EL XR8, same engine, wasnt to bad apart from in that car the body module had to be incorperated to make the gauges work, but in your case it will be a walk in the park with any aftermarket ECU

I had this idea of pulling the whole lot out of the donor car and using the Ford key to start the car... avoiding the $300cloughy wrote:Roughly....300 big oneschimpboy wrote:What do they slug you to eliminate the smart lock, roughly?cloughy wrote:Just use the factory ECU Unless your planning engine mods, smartlock can be erased, i'll give you the number of the mob if you get into it further, i've done a couple of Ford 5l's

That's exactly what I done when I built my very first car, XF wagon with an EL XR6 motor, box and diff, but when I did my rangie originally years ago, I put a 5l in and purchased the overide which was an external unit, I use it when setting up other cars, then the computers can be sent away and i keep my boxchimpboy wrote:I had this idea of pulling the whole lot out of the donor car and using the Ford key to start the car... avoiding the $300cloughy wrote:Roughly....300 big oneschimpboy wrote:What do they slug you to eliminate the smart lock, roughly?cloughy wrote:Just use the factory ECU Unless your planning engine mods, smartlock can be erased, i'll give you the number of the mob if you get into it further, i've done a couple of Ford 5l's
Either way, i think its 300 well spent, saves heaps of time and effort and makes for a much neater conversion

If you could get that number for me that would be great!cloughy wrote:Just use the factory ECU Unless your planning engine mods, smartlock can be erased, i'll give you the number of the mob if you get into it further, i've done a couple of Ford 5l's
