Can someone send me pics of a 1984 Hilux Enginge bay with a 2L in it and also with a 3y in it? I have just put a 2L into a petrol ute having problems with the diesel side of things. It seems to be pumping too much diesel in. In 5 Km it is using about 5Ltrs so i am thinking I might have hooked the fuel lines up wrong.(Not sure wather they need a Vacuum Line & a Breather Line) At first I thought it might be an injector sticking open so I replaced them didn'nt fix the problem. Running out of ideas. :x

In 5 Km it is using about 5Ltrs
sounds like you havn't got the return line to the tank hooked up and its pooring the fuel all over the ground ;) or a fuel leak somewhere.

The extra fuel is some how getting into the sump droped oil out & about 10ltrs of diesel and oil came out

sounds like someone has plumbed the fuel return line into the engine somehow.

get a manual, and have a look.

no real way that diesel can get into the sump like that unless you have a direct input source, not from an injector either, as it wouldnt spray that amount in even if it was missing a piston.

Let us know what you find.


Ok just to add.
YOu have fuel line going into the fuel pump from the filter, this is attached at the front of the fuel pump via a metal pipe and banjo bolt.
the 2nd banjo bolt is on the top of the cover of the feul pump, just behind the throttle shaft, this has an input from the injector rail to take the air/ fuel back from the injecttors, and the other, larger one is to the return line that then goes back to the fuel tank.
The only breather on these engines is one from the rocker cover to the inlet manifold.
Check this plumbing, ensure you are getting fuel back to the tank, sounds like you have it somehow plumbed into the engine by mistake.

Is there any other way diesel can get into the sump checked lines everything looks fine. Except on the ute the 2L came out of the 2 fuel lines where on passanger side & on the new ute the return line comes up on the passenger side & the pickup comes from the Drivers side. Just can't think of how it can get so much diesel into the motor. Does the return line work on pressure from the pump or does it work on Gravity Feed. Return line sits about 6-8 inches higher than the outlet on the pump.

I would double check the return line that it does indeed return to the tank, and not the charcoal cannister that pettys use.

My bet is that its not returning to the tank, but some egr stuff that is getting into the engine.

Diesel will not leak out of the pump, and into the engine, its seperate.

Have you checked the fuel return line??

my bet is that you need to make another line to go back to the tank, as its not returning to the tank, but finding its way into the engine via the egr stuff that is not needed for the diesel.

Diesel has a breather hose from the top of the rocker cover to the inlet maniflod.
Thats it.
Fuel hose from tank to hand pump/filter, then hose to inject pump, then return to the tank.

Something is not connected correctly, thus dumping return fuel into the sump resulting in high sump levels, and bad fuel burn figures.

Checked hoses again, guess what I found? 3 Hose goning to the tank, 2 you blow through and you get bubbles in your tank, 1 you blow through and get no bubbles but puts air in tank. Now do I put the return line to the one that goes into the tank that blows bubbles or to the other one that does not blow bubbles?
Also what do I do with the spare one?

If you are absolutely sure that the hose goes directly back to the tank, and is not connected in any way to any other hose, outlet, egr, charcoal cannister etc, then run it back thru that. I would use one that creates bubbles, as thats how they are plumbed in the normal diesels.

You mentioned earlier about vac hosing attached to the motor, have you removed all of that and is the fuel hosing now routed as I mentioned earlier??

What did you find with your current fuel return steup before checking these 3 lines??

I would almost guarantee that those hoses that were used for the petrol would be plumbed together somehow and one or more would not go directly back to the tank.
