hilux radiator supports

Post by dmcruising »

hi i have a ln106 hilux and just got a bullbar cheap and while fitting it i had to remove the 2 panels either side at the bottom of the radiator and was wondering if they are important as they don't seem to take any weight.

thanks in advance
dave

here's the pics they are about 3 to 4mm thick and 1 on each side. the radiator does not touch it at all as there is about 6 to 8mm gap.

thanks dave

i got a 94 ln106 and have had it around 3 years. Also have bullbar and it doesn't have those funny looking things underneath. I doubt you'll need it. I was told there is supposed to be a sheet of something there to help with air flow around in the engine bay, helps with cooling apparently. As long as you have the shouds you'll be right. You radiator is mainly held in place by the bolts and these hook like bits welded to the side of your rad. No worries there mate.

thanks i was thinking they were useless a they were not supporting any weight. the bar i got was from an ln65 and it fits perfextly without these panels.

i had themon mine and the winch bar bolted to them so i'd guess there a gusset of some form but if your not running a winch i wouldn't worry about it

I would say they are a gusset there to minimise twist of the chassis. If you must remove them is it possible to fab a gusset up to replace them with? My chassis cracked at that point...

i think i will get away without them as this is the bar and i am sure how it attaches will work similar and stop too much twisting.
