Bost Issues

Post by BUSTED100 »

Changed the turbo in my 80, last night and now once the RPM's hit 2000 the orange turbo light comes on(over boost light) Checked the boost gauge and well when I back off at about 2200 its about 15PSI?
HELP I am a mechanical drop kick.
car: Toyota 80 series saharra Auto
motor: 1HDT
turbo: off a 1HDTF (I think)

Need to fix this issue, drop boost back a little etc

If it still has the original fixed length wastegate rod, check that there are no washers or spacer where it mounts to the compressor housing.

Otherwise easiest way would be to fit some sort of aftermarket boost controller.

make sure the wastegate actuator line is connected, and that it has no splits or holes in it.
it would be a wastegate related issue to overboost, so if its not the line then the wastegate flap is jamming or the wastegate may not be adjusted right (if it has an adjustable rod)

the old turbo was maxing at 11PSI, this other turbo&wastegate are going past 14PSI at 2200RPM. Will be putting on the old turbos wastegate and see what happens

fingers crossed

factory boost on the 1HD-FT is around 13psi so it's probably working perfectly. just keep an eye on your EGT's, shouldn't be a problem.

The light you are speaking about is a sensor for over boosting resulted from wastegate failure. I have the same thing, the light just trying to tell you there is a wastegate problem.... But you allready know that........ as you are increasing the boost, so the wastegate has to opens later..... just as dumbdunce said, drive with your egt gauge.

today the wastegate was changed back to the one off my factory original turbo, bloody different type of linkage to the wastegate rod (no pin for the circlip go through etc).

so that done all back on finally and what do you know same shit, pop the bonnet and the hose between the wastegate and turbo had a kink in it from pushing up against the air in take(original wastegates conection in different place), took the kink out and it maxes out at 12PSI Beats the 15-20 PSI the other wastgate was allowing.
I think the turbo is off a 1HDTFE but the wastegate is off a Supra (could be wrong, was told but can't remember)

nah it wasn't kink Andrew, it was only kinked the when the old wastegate was put on, as the hose was longer than the original hose to fit with the newer wastegate nipple/pipe (whatever its called) positon, when we placed the older wastegate off the old turbo on to the new one I didn't cut the hose down
