1HDT bad electrical problem

Post by guerd87 »

hey guys how are we all?

ive got a bad electrcial problem in my car over the last few days, it seems like im loosing power somwhere between my battery and the rest of my car

mains problems im having are:

- slow cranking speeds of starter
- glow plugs not glowing up correctly
- fuel guage not working correctly

ive tried a new battery and didnt change, im receiving 12v fine into my ignition but when i measure the Volts at the glow plugs its only getting around 5-6V which i think is a little low

the reason im asking here is if anyone has had anything similar happen? maybe just a simple relay gone?

any help would be appreciated
cheers
John

my first guess would be a bad earth connection somewhere, maybe battery, body or engine

Hey...some glow plugs work on 6-9 volts, most actually...so dont get off track with that one...start at the beginning and with motor running, you should be charging 14.6 volts, check the earths to motor and chassis as Steve has mentioned.

well thanks for the rpelys guys, finally got it sorted out

traced back through everything and couldnt find much, so out came the starter motor, and with a spare one i had laying around the shed (thanks andrew ^_^, scott's one came in handy) reco'd my starter adn was all good

the armature was shorting out or bad set of brushes, either way i just swapped them over
