shoulda done your homework!
you brought a 1UZ or something like that? might have more luck if you knew the engine code
and it'll unlock a world of reading on what people have done before!

sorry for the vague post, I'm sure you'll get more helpfull ones BUT use the searchQ. What G,box do i run will a GQ Manual/Auto work?
if you can find/make an adaptor
Q. What do i have to do to fit the G,box and motor?
pull out your old one to start with, drop the new one in and see, then hope you can read wiring diagrams
Q.Has anyone ever done this before.
search, pretty sure it has
Q. Are there adapter kits Avail?

fair wack of work and worse if you cant fabricate, and wire shit yourself.
Then if you want it registered, Engineering.. which is where you should start.
But wouldnt you ask all this before you rush out and buy the engine to see how hard/easy/if possible this conversion would be?
then go out and buy an engine suitable... from some of the questions, you sound like you dont know where to start.
I would like to put a 4.8 into my GQ but i dunno if i could get it as a manual as all the 4.8's are auto's and i doubt there is a bellhousing that fits it out there without getting a custom made one.
I would rather a 5.7L or 6.2L Chevy engine in it than a Toyota engine, they are so fuel hungry compared to the 5.7L.

AA's for Quitters
A speed camera would have prevented that!
you sure about that..my mate had a loan of a 4.8 and I recall it being a manual. Went like the clappers.MyGQ wrote:I would like to put a 4.8 into my GQ but i dunno if i could get it as a manual as all the 4.8's are auto's and i doubt there is a bellhousing that fits it out there without getting a custom made one.

Maybe all the latest ones have been auto by choice
I am the Nightrider! I am the chosen one. The mighty hand of vengeance, sent down to strike the unroadworthy!
4.8 actually bolt up to GQ box's with petrol bell housings.MyGQ wrote:I would like to put a 4.8 into my GQ but i dunno if i could get it as a manual as all the 4.8's are auto's and i doubt there is a bellhousing that fits it out there without getting a custom made one.

but to the guy that bought the soarer motor it will be shit in a GQ as they have hardly any torque in the motor for all the effort involved just do a chev if you want a v8.

I'd like a 4.8 in my Maverick... but I reckon that when the day comes that I want to fork out enough money for that, I'll just get a GU.hienuf wrote:Not trying to be a smartass, But why bother with a toyo engine in a gq?
You want v8 put a 5 litre or chevy in,been done a million times and cheap.
On a side note, Why dont gq owners put the 4.8 gu as a transplant??
This is not legal advice.
bubs has done a few, there is a couple running arounf brisbane that i know of, perhaps 4 or 5, the cheapest adapter by far is what i did, no need for custom shafts or anything, search my members thread...
bubs could probably copy my adapter for you for a few hundred, if you are prepared to wait a few weeks.

hands and mums dont count!!!
I'd still go the VH45 before a chev.. Bubs said that the Soarer donk went well when he had done it...weeman wrote:4.8 actually bolt up to GQ box's with petrol bell housings.MyGQ wrote:I would like to put a 4.8 into my GQ but i dunno if i could get it as a manual as all the 4.8's are auto's and i doubt there is a bellhousing that fits it out there without getting a custom made one.

perfectly said.
but with less issues the GU 4.5 is an easier option.
the 4.8 needs box change and is a little more complicated. yes it can be done but its just more time involved. Buy a GU..

I have 1UZ in front of a 4.2 manual transmision.
Made the adaptor myself (pretty easy) and currently working on a flywheel and clutch.
Last time I did a fuel consupmtion check I was using 17litres per hundred at 120kmh on a round trip Sydney/Canberra.
The engines go well, are cheap and just a that little bit more advanced than pushrod engines.

Out of the box any 1uZ has a minimum of (a genuine) 230hp and up to 260hp.
300hp is pretty easy to find and they rev until tomorrow.
Check this link for how they sound when Guts drives one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQbe4gX6H6Y
His engine is a standard Soarer engine out of a wreck.
