One less feroza on the road.

Post by senergy »

Its sad to say but I think my feroza is dead.
It had an altercation with a stopped truck last night.
Its at the smash repairers waiting for a quote to be fixed or a write off notice.

The pictures dont look too bad but the bullbar is stuffed and it might have taken the chassis with it.
Thankfully the bullbar actually bounced of the my BFG's and absorbed some force.

Girlfriend has a bit of whiplash and bruising where the seat belt hit her but other then that were ok.
Speed wise I'd say i was doing 40-50km/h, thats pretty fast to run into a truck.

My insurance company are sending out the accessor on Wednesday to see if its repairable or not.
If it is then good, I get a new paint job and if not then I get a Forester XT or a Pajero Evo 1996 (but i cant seem to find any forsale)

your joking aren't ya!!
How fast did you hit?
Roza chassis must be made of paper mache, I hit a tree at ~40, demolished the bullbar (split in two) and it bent the chassis a bit but was repairable :?

Image

Get under there and see how the chassis is bent, and take some pics if you can. Might be some life in her yet :D

EDIT: ok your insured, who cares, let them do the stuffing around :D . More than likely write off if the chassis is at all bent if a panel shop is fixing it for you. They charge like a wounded bull

If i wasn't insured then its definitely fixable (my father was a panel beater/spraypainter) but since i am insured im going to let them deal with it all. I dont have the time and he's a bit old to be crawling under my car.

I dont think the chassis is that damaged its just when you factor in 2 panels, bonnet, bullbar, radiator, paint and labour its going to add up pretty quickly.

And i think you meant 4kmh when you hit the tree.. I heard those rocky's are built like the hairdressers that drive them.... all rubber and silicone

I understood what he said..
If they do write it off I'll try and find out what is going to happen to it.
I've done a fair of research into getting a new car while ive been waiting so I have a feeling it will be fixed... :( maybe a good time to sell it since it will have a fresh coat of paint.

not offical word from the insurance company but i talked to the repair shop.
$4500 is the quote.
I'll probably find out tmrw that its a write off.

$2200 or labour, $1500 for parts.
Sounds like some structural damage for that amount of labour

Remember paint will be in the labour figure too and there would have to be $1k in paint at least as it's a metallic.

It'd be a shame if its a writeoff- it seems especially frustrating when its close to being a repairer.

buy it back and just fix it dosen't look too bad

if ya want a quick job just attach a chain to something strong and give it a tug, thats all the smash repairers do (well its a bit more scientific lol)

it looks as though it might be a total loss but depends on the year and how much you have it insured for

mate thats just a love tap but the insurance co wouldn't be interested in fixing it, what they do is work out how much salvage they would get less the value of the vehicle and htey would get the total spending for the vehicle if the repairs are more than this figure its going to be a total

it might go for a couple of hundred to a grand or two but just depends

good luck with it bro

If you try to search the right people they will make the right job for your ROZA without spending a lot of money.

Just got the phone call. Its a write off. I have to get the non insured stuff out today and tmrw it gets towed away.
So... now to buy another car. so unsure what to get but sorry to say it wont be a Feroza. I spent too much time making it what I wanted and I just dont have the time anymore.
Maybe a Pajero J top, maybe a RAV 4, maybe a Lexus, maybe a mx5, maybe a Subie.. or maybe GSXR 600 (motorbike). I know, there are some very soft roaders there but I didnt really push the Feroza much at all. It was over a year ago that it even went into low range.
My friends all do track days with their Honda's, Evo's, GTR's so it might be nice to join them although ive already lost my licence 3 times so that may not be a good idea.

I'll let you know how much I get and where you can buy my wreck as its got some good bits (extractors, 2 inch exhaust, big tyres, very clean interior, nice tinting etc...)

$4500 is the payout value. Not bad considering I payed $3800 2.5 years ago.

Now to figure out what to buy..

The feroza sure was a lot of fun.

Sad news but sounds like it has worked out well for you. The payout value is excellent, I was expecting you'd get less.

Now for my "next vehicle" suggestion- a Renault Sport Clio. They're cheap to insure and go very hard in a straight line and around a track- standard with no mods. I bought a 2005 182 Cup last year and it's excellent, cheap to run and fully equipped with all the nice bits- ESP, ABS, climate control, full electrics including cruise, suede/ leather interior etc etc.

If you're interested in something along those lines take one for a test drive, you won't be disappointed. ;) You can pick up the earlier models from around $17000.

X2 - I put near 100,000km on our Renaultsport Clio in 2 years and it was dynamite, could still scare me on the top end of second gear the day I sold it.

Bought I Cooper S after that and it wasn't anywhere near as much fun.

However, if you have already had license problems, I think I would be buying another 4WD.... and if you think 4WDing is expesnive, just start doing track days :D

You guys have read my mind.
The clio is definately on the short list.
My friend has had the Sport 172 and now has the Sport 182 F1 Cup (the one with the strips, they got to go for a fang around the f1 track in melbourne with Alonso). I love driving them. Very small so no luggage but damm its good around the city.
Not sure how i will fit my kite surfing stuff into it though.

Im pretty happy with the payout too. Seems like the feroza's have gone up in value.

Still nothing on a GSX-600R :D, but still a nice car for sure.

Here's a pic of my Clio:

Image

Same as the F1 Cup only it doesn't have the plaque (don't ask me- Renault do some strange things.... :? )

I dynoed it last weekend and it's got 103kW @ the wheels- not too shabby for a NA two litre engine. The best thing is they've got useful torque from below 2000RPM, no need to rev the ring out them like some Jap engines.

Ahh the ignorance of some people!

It's power to weight ratio and torque spread that counts. 132kW/ 205Nm with 1090kg - you do the sums. Honda Vtec engines make more power but their torque spreads sucks in comparison (plus they weigh more....)

0-100km/h in 7.1 seconds and 400m in 15.0 secs is plenty fast enough for most people. When you get to some corners there aren't many stock cars that can keep up- no matter how much power they've got. ;)

Insurance? $400 per year for me with $33000 agreed value (more than I paid by a fair margin.) Try insuring a Jap import for anywhere near that.

0-100 in 7.1 secs

7.1 secs 15 sec quater doesnt stand out much to me was just saying try some alternatives before you spend that much money on a car you may think is fast until you are embarassed by standard commodores and falcons. how the numbers stack up on paper isnt always how it is in the real world. i'm on my 28th car just trying to share some info, drive a few others first before you make such an expensive decision

mrRocky: Ive driven quite a few different cars, some that you have listed including a very modified GTIR, Modified Honda Integra Type R, Skyline Gtst, a couple of clio sports, a few wrx's, and a few others i cant remember.
The clio sport was one of the most fun to drive but i would say the Honda Integra type r (dc2) is better. But it is dearer to insure and a fair bit older.
Ofcourse the GTIR and skylines are quicker but are a pain to keep going.
If you want a fast and fun car to just jump into and not worry about the clio and Type R get my vote.

All that being said. I test drove a Suzuki Grand Vitara 1999 4dr V6 2.5L today. Very nice. Much more power then the Feroza which isnt too hard. It bounces a long as the suspension is soft, too soft I think. Seats are crap with no lumbar support. The amount of aftermarket parts is very appealing and Suzuki's are pretty tough. Im not the biggest fan of autolocking hubs though.

Ive had a Vitara before, a 1991 JLX soft top, very fun car until a truck tried to push me off a bridge. Very reliable cars.
