Power window problems on 80

Post by petey »

hey everyone, i love my 80 but the power windows are driving me crazy, they are so slow and most of the time get stuck half way. The biggest problem though is my window behind the drivers door, the glass won't stay in it's tray so every time the window goes down the glass falls out. Anyone had these problems and found solutions?

would really appreciate any ideas.

Cheers

pull the window and the track out and open the track up again the some good silicone and silicone the window in and get some long handle plyers or something to squeeze it back done squeeze it 2 hard tho u might break the glass it worked for me and also the windows getting stuck go to supercheap and the a stick of dry window lube works a treat

I think most of the problem with them comes from the nylon bush thing that runs back n forth in the slider. I think if this was a bearing instead of a slinder they would work heeps better. I don't think it has anything to do with the felt runners, the motors or the wipers. Well maybe the motors a little bit but not completely.

What happens withthe nylon busj thing is over the years it wears and then the windows work really good for a while. But what happens is this bush has now become ovaled instead of round. Then after a while it rotates a bit and then starts grabbing on the runners as its now not all lining up how it was meant to. My rear windows work great as their've never been used near as much as the front windows. My drivers window is real bad on cold days, I put this down to the nylon bush being cold and lube never works as well when its cold.

I have also noticed alot of the time there is wear in the mechanism the window doesn't go up straight so it grips the window tracks a bit. If you pull off the door trip and give it a bit of a wiggle you should be able to see to problem spot
