Lazy me

Post by mikeyoda »

Are the gearbox and the transfer case sharing the same oil on a 95 paj.
My gear box is a bit clunky on second gear( occaisonally) and I wanted to add some nulon to it but didnt want to stuff up the centre diff lock in case it works like a lsd .

I havnt looked under it yet to see if they have separate plug holes as it raining when I think of it, and I cant be bothered getn wet.

Thoughts?

I'm pretty sure they're separate. There are no clutch plates in the centre diff, so it's no problem.

Yes they are separate and sealed from each other (separate drain/fill points).
Don't be scared about adding a teflon based additive to your t/case it amazingly freed up my centre diff which was binding in 4wd centre diff unlocked.
There is a viscous coupling attached to the centre diff but it is sealed from the outside oil.
Here's a pic of a super select centre diff and viscous coupling - in fact this is from Scott's 2.85 t/case.
