Boosting a TD6
Boosting a TD6
What is the easiest way to up the boost on the Patrol 4.2 TD6. I know there are boost controllers out there but are there other alternatives. They do not have an adjustable waste gate.
I don’t want massive gains but am currently running the factory 9PSI and want to increase to 14PSI.
Cheers

mate, you need to add fuel and boost to make power.
So you add fuel and then screw more boost into her to burn the fuel, increaseing boost will help lower EGT.
You will need a pryo gauge as a start. And it recommended you get the fueling and increase in boost done by a reputable diesel fuel specialist.

Do what he said get a good dyno guy and get it down that way..DanielS wrote:mate, you need to add fuel and boost to make power.

To wind up the boost just go to autobarn and buy a Turbosmart boost T there like $90..
Rick.
I know all this.DanielS wrote:mate, you need to add fuel and boost to make power.

The vehicle has been professionaly tuned and has all the gauges fitted.
I just want an answer to the question.

ok then , yes wastegated, yes boost controler will help up boost or change wastegate actuator for a 14psi unit.sootygu wrote:I know all this.DanielS wrote:mate, you need to add fuel and boost to make power.

Two ways of adjusting boost. First using a bleed of valve as mentioned, 2nd is to shorten the wastegate actuator rod.
Adding more boost may slightly increase power 1-4% approx, it will also drop egt's.
You are best doing it in a total package, with measured before and after results.

Have you done all the other MODS? Dump pipe, exhaust? Turning up the boost is one thing but if you can increase efficiency you can make more power without significantly more boost. The std turbo at 14psi is pumping some high outlet temps, I'd do a compressor wheel upgrade and keep the turbo outlet temps down, boost dosent replace volume. Set your tyre pressures at 35psi and drive for 3 hours, check them and they are at 40psi, there is no more air in the tyre but the pressure is higher. A little turbo at 14 psi can make less power then the right turbo at 10 psi as the volume of air can be greater at the lower boost, its the volume not the pressure that makes power.

It has had all the mods mentioned but thought was not sure about what advantage extra boost would give. I know there isnt a huge gain from increasing the boost but didnt think it was that low.
Have been contemplating upgrading the turbo but have to justify it.
Maybe offer me a special price and I could be tempted

Cheers
