My mate has a 2003 2.8 T/D Triton with 62000km on it, he has a problem with Glow plugs. He is on his 2nd set (the last only lasting 28K) not sure on exact details not my car. It's hard to start any idea?

I have 1998 MK diesel triton that has done 225000ks and I have had to replace the glow plugs at the start of every winter for the last 5 years in order to be able to start it in the mornings.Local Mitzy dealership is unable to explain whats going on so I just have to cough up with $250 to have them replaced.
How can you swallow that from a dealer! They keep feeding consumers with crap like that and get away with it. If your plugs are failing every year then there is definately a problem with 1) your engine 2) the plugs or 3) (my guess) your dealer! Do they keep putting the same ones in? One things for sure, if you always do what you've always done then you'll always get what you've always got! I had a friend with a brand new Navara that had a failing clutch, couldn't even pull a 5metre tinny. Took it back and they told him that he had to put a Heavy Duty Skyline Clutch in it at his cost! Idiot did it and Surprise, he caused more problems with his drive train. So he took them to CA and they bought the car back of him. The plugs in my old 4D56 are still going strong after 15 years! A litlle harder to start in winter but only a couple of seconds longer.

Did mine myself. The local shop said I had the wrong plugs for a start. I had turbo 2.8 plugs not non turbo plugs (my MK is non turbo). Picked up 4 X Bosch GPF-112 for $80 all up. starts now like a dream New plugs are a little bit longer too. He also said that the Mistsu turbos eat plugs for breakfast

I have a similar problem with a 2.5TD. A real pain to start on cold mornings. Runs fine other times. I have had the injectors done and at the same time the mechanic checked the glow plugs and found them to be fine.....
Maybe he was wrong.
Will let you know how new ones go once installed

Hate to bring up an old thread but I need to replace my plugs and I want to make sure I get the correct ones. I have a 99 NA diesel 4m40. I looked on the Bosch website and the GPF-112 are listed for the 4D55 and 4D56 engines. They list the GPF-119 for pre 96 4M40T (must be out of a delica) and GPM-902 for post 96 4M40T. Also, how hard is it to replace glow plugs? It looks pretty straight forward is there anything I should know/ look out for? Do you just disconnected and screw them out and screw the new ones in???

I'm sure the plugs were that number (sorry box is at the tip). Glow plugs is dead easy. Disconnect the foot long bar along the top then unscrew plugs. Replace plugs and bar.
