doing up an 83 rocky

Post by nottie »

Ok guys i have no idea what i am dealing with here but my apprentice has bought himself an 83 petrol rocky for $500 and is a real tidy truck.
I have told him a would help him do everything on it as in all new bar work a few things trimmed with the old trusty grinder and suspension and body lift.
What i am wondering is if there is anything from any other vehicle that could bolt in or moded to fit (i know anything can be modded but hay) as in suspesion Leaves that is. What we are planning is once its regod he will drive it for a while with a bit of suspsion and bar work then when he buys a small car to get around in we will go to town on this thing and do a chop and diffrent diffs and the likes with a commo v6 but for now the leaves will do it just fine if we can find somethn to fit. I was thinking maybe hilux leaves with new perches but maybe there is a better option?

there's no such thing as an 83 rocky :? Does it have 1983 stamped in on the plate?

EDIT: Just throw some lifted srpings under and maybe slightly extended shackles. or Just extend the shackles, and use old flogged out springs, more flexy. Get cutting on the guards and fit 31"s till u put in wider diffs. Mine felt tippy enough with 2"lift n 31's on stock diffs/rims :D

whereabouts are you? both myself and my mate got them pretty easy. mines 84, his is 88. I got mine through Liverpool Springs, in liverpool sydney. Pretty basic springs but they where cheap, and they do the job. Haven't botheref taking leaves out for more flex but i dare say it'd help.

Mate got some through carrolls or somewhere,in a kit, came with toughdog adjustable shocks n stuff, but probly double the price I paid.

Find a 60 series cruiser, measure the springs, and compare with Rocky springs. The results should see you smile :D
