The Gold Coast Land Rover guys had a run there the same weekend and at least 6 vehicles of ours (that we currently know of) were tampered with.
  • Range Rover steering arm connection nut and split pin loosened.
Discovery all l/h wheel nuts loose.
Defender l/h front wheel nuts loose and tamper marks.
2nd Discovery r/h wheels nuts loose except lock nut.
3rd Discovery all rear r/h wheel nuts loose.
2nd Range Rover steering problems, still investigating.

As I was not there I am merely reporting some facts, however I think you will agree this matter is very serious indeed and very nearly could have been a tragic end to a weekend for more than one family through – we suspect - some group or individuals stupidity. I am still waiting to speak to a few others in the club but it seems very unlikely and too coincidental I think you will agree to have so many cars with wheel nuts and steering components come loose of their own accord.

I don't know if it was anyone from this forum but please if anyone knows something, please PM me for anonymity... i will not name names or sources but i'm sure you all agree this is a very serious and potentially fatal issue which can affect us all if those involved get away without punishment and do it again.

thanks in advance

It is very unfortunate this has happened and i cant imagine what type of person would even contemplate doing this for any reason. It does seam someone had an axe to grind though as this many issues dont just happen.

But i would be very carefull because this post in this thread could be very easily misread as you accusing people involved in the XRCC Comp. Im not saying they were not involved but without proof it could easily of been anyone in the park including someone from within your own group that may have issues.

Goodluck with finding the culprit.

Sounds to me like someone trying to steal landrover wheels, maybe looking a little closer to home? I don't think Wicked's post was meant to be a dig, my first thought was how often do you check your wheel nuts as well.

Although i can't personally vouch for everyone there, the competitors that were there on the weekend are some of Australias most profesional teams and crews, it is highly unlikely that anyone directly involved with XRCC had anything to do with this.

Can't control who comes through the gates though.

We leave tools and spares lying around camp when we are competing without giving it a second thought, but maybe from now on toolboxes will be padlocked and tow vehicles locked etc.

I agree with Brett though, no body has the right to touch someone elses vehicle, especially when it puts people's families at risk.
Ask daisy what happens when wheels fall off driving along the road into Rover park.

I hope you get to the bottom of this, but i doubt you ever will.

I find very hard to believe that someone could be so stupid and it really gets up my kilt, but it happens everywhere with the brainless few around. In most comps and clubs it's an unwritten rule not to mess with other peoples cars, as your own life would be at risk!!!!

BUT bolts and nuts do come loose I lost a rear wheel on my Patrol a few years ago at 100lkm p/hr on the highway, not funny with the family in the car!!! I've had steering and panard rods come loose.

We all bag each others makes Toyota/Nissan/Rover I own all 3 but DON'T MESS WITH THEM!!!

Noted Rocktoy, i'm sorry if it read like i was accusing the XRCC competitors... i'm more assuming it would be some dicks who were there to watch or may have been there at the same time in general but hoping someone might have spotted something suspicious.

As mentioned, it is too many vehicles to be coincidence, and most of the guys there play hard so we make it a practice to check our vehicles a fair bit. One of the vehicles affected had been for a mud run the day before and had obvious scraping on the nuts from a socket or brace so the tampering was evident... all except for the locknut of course.

Fingers crossed

Sorry about that post Wicked... just absolutely shit off over this.

But with 6 vehicles with obvious tampering, including scrape marks on all muddy wheel nuts except the lock-nut... it is obvious this was deliberate.

We as a club are lucky enough to not have any dickheads in the club and have not accepted memberships in the past because they weren't the 'right sort of people' to fit our club dynamic. So no we were not rowdy and had the whole cabin/lodge area booked to ourselves so all contained.

As for why would anyone do it... lets try immaturity, too much grog, general lack of judgment or brains... young ***** in general... same sort who knock over wheelie bins in streets etc. etc. etc.

Very unfortunate. Like others have said, i know most of the competitors that were there and i couldn't imagine anyone doing this.

In saying that i also own a LandRover so i know how easy things fall off them

The other downside to all this is that 90% of the people in that club now see it as a reflection of Rockcrawlers. I hope that this doesn't occur.

this type of malicious behavior is intollerable and i sincerely hope you get to the bottom of it!!

as stated i could not even imagine it to be done by any of the competitors as they are a very close and trusting bunch, i know that like most we had thousand of dollars in spares left on trailers and campsites so theft of property was not an issue here.

OUTLAW please do not hold a grudge against the rockcrawling community as you will find them to be a very thoughtful and easy-going group and always willing to help others , as they too have done the hard yards and dont want their vehicles damaged by anyone other than themselves!!

Not happy to have one of my events deemed responsible for some fool (if any) doing the wrong thing. Knowing the entrants, I know that it was not one of them, and by the look of the other people that watched my event, they did not seem the type (if there is a type) that would tamper with other people's vehicles.

I hope that you do find the person (if any at all) who was responsible for the said tampering of vehicles.

Cheers
