Custom tray spare holder

With those custom trays where the spare is mounted in the tray at the back, how have you made the mounts? I want to have a 35" spare if that helps.


Josh085 I think his name is has the setup Im thinking of, same with boof and his brooksybuilt tray.

Pics would be muchly appreciated.

Here is a link to mine. Kept it nice and simple to release it quickly during a stage. Held on by a quick release strap. Only problem I have had was we also used it to hold the ground anchor on and rubbed through the strap. Other than that 4 years of using this system and no problems.

Woooooooooo. Sort of what I was looking for.


What I was thinking is: Have the spare mounted at around 50*, and have the spare mounted behind the rear most edge of the tray deck. If you understand what I mean.

I used to hold spares on like this as well. But after a Motor Cycle rider was killed on the goldcoast recently by a spare wheel mounted exactly the same way i would never mount them that way again. It may be allright in the short term but if its left on there 24-7 like that the strap can eventually detiriorate and snap. Or it be easily tampered with by anyone anywhere causing it to be loose.

Mine will never see the road, and plus it will probably be mounted on standard Patrol swc. Thats what Im thinking anyways.

weld a bracket to your tray and use the factory hilux one upside down

Mine has a hole in the base of the tray. It then has a threaded rod that feeds through the centre of the tray, into a bolt welded into the crossbrace. Its strong and easy to remove but it may not be quick enough if your wanting to be able to remove a tyre quickly in a comp. If you want pics of it let me know as the tray is off the truck at the moment so its easy to do.

Yes please Mr boof. That would be muchly appreciated. Doesnt really have to be quick. I could make a 'wingnut'. Would that be quicker?
