GQ vacum locker won't disengage

Post by chops »

guys,

as topic says

tested my locker again to make sure everything worked and the frickin thing won't turn off again

I've pulled the vacum lines off, blown compressed air down them until they were clear, also put some air tool oil down it to help and the damn thing still won't turn off

any tips/pointers?

the diaphram thing is pretty light on so be careful blowing compressed air down there

try driving, forward and then reverse a couple metres

mines forked too chops.
i think lack of use takes them a while to free up.
if you are sure both solinoids are working id try swapping lines at the solinoids and leaving the switch on.
if not ill have mine out tonight hopefully so i might have more of an idea what makes them so gay then:P

as soon as I pull the vacum lines off the actuator on the diff, I hear the solenoid go 'clunk' and disengage.. hook the buggers back up and it's locked :bad-words:

could be a possible vacum drama in the engine bay somewhere? wrong lines coming off carby/inlet etc?

doesnt sound like u got an engine prob but check ur vaccum resevoir make sure ur locker solenoids are getting vacuum supplied to them both,

only one line should ever have vacuum. u switch it on one hose will have vac, u switch it off the other hose will have vac, ur actuator shouldnt move unless u have one or the other on. so swap the hoses to keep it disengaged, it sounds like ur (OFF)vacuum solinoid isnt throwing out and letting vacuum thru, it either has no power, no vacuum supply or its jammed and not operating.

1 do both lines have vacuum at the diff? or only one at a time depending on wheter u switch it on or off

2 let ur car run....turn the car off....pull the hoses off and listen u should here the air get sucked into the diaphram on the diff actuator. if not u might have a leak in ur vacuum system

3 get a small wire and give poewr to the little solinoids (straight from the battery) with ur engine off, u should hear them open as soon as u give it power, fuse the wire too so u dont damamge anyhting, if u dont hear it throw u might have to pull it appart,

squirt some WD40 into the solenoid and give it a tap with a screwdriver head, this has worked for me, the little piston inside can get jammed

i reversed the 2 vacum lines on the solenoid in the engine bay and turned the locker switch to ON.. and the bugger turned off!

methinks I have a dead solenoid.. but I'm about to chase down some of those funky mac valves for it.. just gotta find out who in Brisbane sells them

my solenoid was a little pressed together sucker and i managed to get it appart with a flat screw driver by folding the certain tabs appart, it was very simple and i had it back together in about 10 mins, there was a small blade of grass blocking the piston travel inside them, 2 years later it was still goin strong ive repaired several of these and all the same, they suck in dust and grass and mud etc but if u got the $$$ its your choice... good luck
