Couragia M/T

I saw these tyres advertised in 4WD monthly - http://www.federaltyres.com.au/couragiamt

They look to be fairly chunky and come in a 235/75/r15

Has anyone seen them in the flesh? Any good? Are they as aggressive as they look in the pictures?

I have seen a set in 265/75/16 on my hairdresser's prado (really, I know, that sounds dodgy... but there you go)

They look pretty good and are very cheap for new tyres. I'd give them a go.

Saw them in arb southern today as i went in to get 235/75x15 in the cooper stt muddies for the zook but the federal couragia m/t come highly recommended i was told by staff espessially for the zooks as they are a bit lighter in weight and a about $40 to $50 per tyre cheaper...just read the pamphlet and they sound alright but i'm still going for the cooper stt's as thats what we have ran on the nissan and can't fault them.

I saw a set of 31x10.5 r15 at Widetread tyres in ferntree gully, vic....they were 165 each...an absolute bargain considering I was looking at getting a mongrel retread for around 180-190....

I ended up with the Silverstone MT-117 Extremes and yeah they were a lot dearer but have taken me further than any MT ever would...The comp style tyre is good for Victoria when its wet and deep mud but on rocks my MTs were better. If I was to get another set of tyres I'd probably go the Couragias as they look like a great pattern in the flesh and tread depth is pretty good as well...

If you are strapped for cash I'd say they would be close to the ultimate value for money tyre for the zook.

Thanks guys, I'll have to check them out when I get home. They would have to be the "chunkiest" tread pattern I have seen in that size. Would love a set of Silverstones, but I don't want to go any bigger in diameter just yet. Unless anyone has any suggestions - different tyres that is.

I saw a set the other day on a 60 series toyota. they seemed to work well. Similar to simex ET's.

You can get the simex centerpede mt(not the comp spec!) for around $150!

There a good tyre and cheap! Just thought you might want to know they look tough too!

Or else my dad just got some new muds for his there a kumho i think an are pretty agresive! They look tough as nails and reckons there shit hot! Again only around $180 a tyre i think!

The guy next door just got some of these Federal tyres on his hilux and they look pretty good but he hasn't had them off road yet!

If so, they're a sexy looking tyre and look like they'd be tough in the bush as well. What size did he get for $180?
Those federals look pretty good for the price, decent tread pattern and 3ply walls would be good for a zook when aired down.

Yeah, they do look better in real life- tread appears shallow in the pic when in fact it's about twice that depth.

The only thing with those Federals is they say its a 3 ply sidewall. Arn't most MT's around a 6 ply? Just might end up being an easily damaged tyre thats all. My ATs are 8 ply, and I've got about 8mm deep cuts in mine, had them inspected by tyre place and they say that thats fine.

At least the federal is available in some tyre sizes often not available in other MTs.

With the Kumho's, no experience with their muddies, but dad runs the Kumho road venture AT, and he thinks they are great (going on to his 4th or 5th year with them on the zook, and still look new). I personally think that the rubber compound is too hard, as they do have a habbit of squealing when he plants it (c'mon its a 1300).

No, most tyres have a 2 ply sidewall. BFG was the first manufacturer to market a 3 ply sidewall, but there are now a few.

I been looking at these as a possible replacement fer me bald Mongrels.
(Company is closed anyway)
And I do too many road trips to use chunky fast wearing tires now

Only some sizes are mentioned as having 3 ply side walls.

May look at retreads, as have had a good run with the Mongrels, just in MT treads.

My bro has couragias in 33's on an 80 series. They are agressive tread pattern.

Awesome tyre. Very good in mud. Perform better than more expensive muddies (they have on club trips) much better than cooper stt's.

Makes my cruiser with BFG AT's feel like its got bald road tyres.

Sidewalls must be decent strength, When i let my AT's to 18psi, and my bro to 18 psi, my AT's look much more bagged out (or flatter?) than his couragias.

Is it just me or are the larger outer lugs taller than the smaller outer lugs? Wouldn't this give a nast bumpy ride?

Had a mate running couragias on a 2.8 GU patrol. Saw them working pretty hard in the otways. Was very impressed with their mud clearing abilities.
He does a fair few kays living in county vic, and is getting good wear out of them.
Bang for buck I don't think you could go past them.

At first I thought me Mongrels wore out fast, but I found an old thread, and I have had them over 4 years. It was the last year that killed them, too many trips down the freeway and highways visiting the lady

Mongrels were ok on road till they wore down, then they became a bit skatey.

If Federal Couragias are right price, will give them a go.

I been running simex hd tubes in 2 of my Mongrels, the other 2 never leaked at all.

I am not sure if I'd need tubes on new tires, so will wait n see.

yeah chris i ran mongrels for a few years.. no real issues.. pigs of tires BUT were ok.. i think the kumo's will be the go if under $200 in 31's!

I bought a set of Federals in January. Got em for around $150 a tyre in Brisbane.

They work very well in the mud down here in Tassie and seem to be wearing quite well too.

i run couragia mts and cant fault em. for the $$$ they are awesome. barely any wear and are my daily drive since i rote off my commondoor ute. still get more places than my mate with jungle trekkers.

I went to the local tyre guy, and they quoted $200 each for Couragias in 31..
Probably a good price, but at that price there is quite a few other choices.
Bit out of my bujet at the moment.
The Coopers were only $230 each, thought they'd be dearer than that.
Retreads were $100
Nankangs were $165

Still thinking.

Sure worth a look into..Some dealers are bound by deals to only offer certain brands..I like to shop local if I can....Will go further afield soon.

Hey Chris, check out widetread in ferntree gully. relatively close to your location and last time I was in there they had Couragias for $165 in 31". That was over a year ago though.
