id say many many bolts :P big u bolts because if they are welded and u bend the slider real bad, then u have the risk of more force being directed onto the chassis rails, where as if its bolted ur gonna fuck the mounts :P and thats it

FITTING SLIDERS

Post by lukes4x4 »

I NORMALLY WELD FISH PLATES TO THE CHASSIS WHICH ARE THREADED. THE SLIDERS THEN BOLT TO THEM. REASON IS NOTHING HANGS BELOW THE CHASSIS. IF NOT SURE I BUILD CUSTOM SLIDERS FOR MANY VEHCILES, AND CAN MADE THE BEASTS.

How thick are the steel fish plates you use?

What vehicle? Because if it's a GQ patrol with no body lift, you pretty much need to weld the sliders on.
This is not legal advice.

I made up my own sliders. They bolt to threaded holes on a 10mm thick fishplate welded to the chassis and extend horizontally to a tube which runs lengthwise to protect the sills. This slider tube sits hard under the body mounts (i even welded tags to assist with install and removal which take body mount bolts). A bent tube then protudes to offer some side protection, provide asthetics, and sort of acts as a step.

In an upward direction, ie rocks, jack, etc. slider is very strong as it's supported via body mounts and chassis rails (reduced bending forces on chassis rails). Downwards, ie standing on tube, its very strong due to tags and chassis rail connection.

when the sliders are bolted to the fish plate do you drill holes
in the chassis so the bolts go though the fish plate or the bolts just go
in 10 mm is that still strong enough
