Fitting electric fan to Sierra radiator

I will be fitting an electric fan, I am installing the m13a motor out of a Jimny into my Sierra.

What I am trying to find out is what fan. Ideally if someone has a make and model number that is great, but as I have been looking at this a few questions have come up.

The general rule of thumb when swapping from fan on the motor to electric fan is "select a fan of the same diameter". This is great but then there is the view that the bigger the fan the better (the increased electrical draw is minor compared to the cooling benefits) but then why make small fans?

The obvious restrictions here are the size of the fan and the size of the radiator, as you need to mount one to the other. The radiator is the standard Sierra one.

So what size fan?

Recommendation on make model?

Any other facts, tricks, things to look out for etc

i fitted one out of a 1.8 lancer but i run a standerd one for the road the electric one is on a switch and used when needed p/s i put mine on the outside of the rad

I think a 16" fan exactly fits across a sierra radiator. We fitted one to greg's old green 660cc car, with a proper shroud and everything.

Still got hot though. Electric fans can assist , but I don't really think they are the business for primary cooling. I haven't seen a sierra that doesn't get a bit hot with only a thermo fan on it.

14 inch fitted mine perfectly, hooked it up to a Davies Craig switch which admittedly is set fairly low temp guage rarely gets over a quarter. Only problem I had was the fan is pretty deep and I had to space the rad forward half an inch to clear the pulley

if u are running orig engine fan also u can fit one to blow throu rad as well.

i am running my orig vitara a/c fan doing this as a temp thermo so when crawing or working hard in the soft sand/mud.

seems to work ok so far.

Oops, there you go, we fitted a 14"fan, not a 16".

Gregs was powered via the stock Cappuccino fan control, but even running flat out it struggled.

I know Greg's green car ran a front mount, but it wasn't making over 55kw, so it should have been able to cope. - It was heavily shrouded.... and Greg drives like a grandpa
