Post by Rookie »

will taking a leaf out of the standard spring pack help get more flex? if so how do I remove them?

It helped mine alot, I had 7leaf packs all around, took the bottom leaf off the rear which was one of those fat load leaves. Now I can flex nearly to the bumpstops. Lost a little height which I didnt mind. My next step is to fit IFS hilux springs and extended shackles in the rear

cheers

Nah not yet, front seems to flex ok considering it has the front swaybar fitted still. I've got to also fit a steel bullbar, winch and dual batteries up front first. Looking at fitting rodeo springs upfront too

cheers

Why are you getting all hung up on how much flex you've got??????

At the end of the day its like driving up a travel ramp to see what your rti score is, it doesn't equate to how much traction the vehicle can get or how good the driver is.

When my MWB was stock and started modding it, i put 2" springs and 2" bodylift trimmed a couple of sharp edges put some 35's on it and bought lockers, because there are plenty of vehicles out there that flex but without traction who gives a shit.

Taking a leaf out should help a bit (as long as the car isnt too heavy for the now softer leaf pack) but what will give you the best improvment in flex will be longer, flatter leaves. Thats what I found with mine anyway. Ended up with a crap approch angle and sits a little lower but flexed alright.

i agree with evil 73, i got 2 inch body $250, 2 inch front shackle lift $100 mate made them, Rear drop shackles (i reckon they are good but many say they arent) $500, 2 inch lifted rear king springs $500. 33 inch tyres was gona go 35s but the old 3F struggled to do 110kph
All fitting done by myself to save money

If i had my time again i would have bought 2 inch lifted front springs instead of the extended shackles with stock springs because it reduces your approach angle.

What the future holds: locked front, better 33's, 5ltr V8 (dreaming) then 35's

Ooh and get a snorkle, the amount of fun that can be had in water and mud far outways the cost of a snorkle

I hear ya! Bought some hilux IFS springs for the rear of my middy, probably going to use the two main leaves and three leaves from my middy pack to make it all up. Spring will be 100mm longer and with 2'' shackles should give an improvement. At the moment i'm also searching for current model rodeo leaf springs to put in the front, will move the diff forward 10mm and are about 55mm longer, got 2'' for the front too but not sure if I will use them yet.

What are people doing with shocks on middies front and rear ? at the moment i'm maxing out my rears and the fronts cant be far off.

Yeah, well go coils then if you want good approach angle, cos even with standard shackles approach angle is still shit.
