lexus auto box sensors identify?
hi all
im at the stage where im mounting the t-case to the lexus auto and came across the 2 sensors, one is the speedo drive the other looks to be some sort of positioning sensor?
i need to know what this is and will the engine/box run without the sensor and speedo drive? it is in a buggy not a road going 4by.
i tried a search but as i do not know what the sensor is for it didnt come up with a answer to solve my question.
cheers mark.
this is the sensor wheel on the output shaft, it has 4 prongs.
this is the sensor, it is 2 pin and is located on the lhs of the gearbox.
this is the sensor wheel off the output shaft, a veiw from behind.

If you look on Lextreme, there is a huge build up by Cebby, I think. Somewhere in that thread, another guy, Mattmanx or something from NZ shows photos of what he did with that speed sensor, but basically he cut it down pretty well thru the centre. This left none of the locating splines on the inside diameter of the sensor, so he simply tapped in three allen key screws to fix it to the output shaft. Having done that he then had to fit the Lexus pickup into the side of the transfer case. This just involved drilling out the existing hole where the old pickup sat and tapping a 6mm thread for the bolt which holds the pickup in place. Sounds a little complicated but the photos on the lextreme thread are very clear. I have just done this with mine and although I haven't wired it all up yet, it seems to be all going to work though. Sideshow will be doing my wiring on the 18 th July.
