I have a vibration which I think I have narrowed down to the rear output of the transfer case.
Is there a bush in the back of the V5M31 transfer case? as I think this may be the cause, or is it a bearing?
I have managed to download some workshop manual pages but they only show a bearing and no bush for the tailshaft to slide into.
The vibration is gone when the tailshaft is out and the tailshaft has been re-tubed and balanced so I can assume that is OK.
Any help would be appreciated.

Yes there is a bush in the extension housing that supports the slip yoke (it is a press fit).
I can tell you that Mitsu don't sell the bush separately so you have to buy the extension housing assembly at about $600 !!!!
Better to get one made up me thinks.......................

JTop, mine is a LWB. I have not had it for long and I am starting to think it has been lifted.
I was reading a post about someone who put GQ springs in after having 2" lifted springs and the measurement they had before the swap was the same as mine now. (790 from bottom lip of the rim to wheel arch) Vehicle is stock otherwise apart from 265/75 LT AT's
Bitsa, The fact mitsubishi don't sell the bush would explain why their software doesn't show it. It is considered part of the rear cover. Do you mean having a bush made up and pressed in?

Yes if you press the old one out and take it to a machine shop they should be able to make one up for a lot less than $600.
Remember there will always be a few mm play there anyway but too much is too much - there is no actual spec I can find for slip yoke free play and it is usually down to experience.
You can also try tranny shops as I know you can buy certain bushes aftermarket.

I have been to Mits. and they will sell me the housing with bush installed for $249+GST.
Not cheap, but less than I expected! A first.
Not all prices are like this however. $295+GST for front rotors - each!
You can buy them anywhere for $90. And wheel bearings - $180 for front and about $75-80 at CBC.
