Help. 80 Door won't unlock
Hey people, need some help with a fiddly problem.
My drivers door has decided to remain locked. It doesn't open from the inside or outside. The inside lock nub clicks back and forth both ways loosely and doesn't seem to connect with the internal lock, using the key from the outside it turns, handle lifts up etc. I removed part of the trim which is a PITA as the door is closed and the cabin frame seals most of it on the door. As far as I can tell the door handle and connections are working fine, the lock connections go inside behind the door metal and don't seem to be moving inside the door only near the nub. before I go and break something by forcing it to move is there a way to get the door open? What is most likely to have happened to it?

sounds like your handle has let go...
can you pull the inner door handle off.. one screw from memory then slide it forwards.
there will be 2 metal rods. one unlocks the door the other opens it..
it pulling on them does not work i would say the lock/ door hinges are worn.
try lifting your door up slightly when unlocking it from the outside, this takes the pressure of the lock itself.
hope this helps ya.
cheers mark

Thanks Mark
I have tried pulling both rods but it doesn't work, I think you are right with the hinges as that's where the action seems to stop, I can't see it only feel it.
Are these the two rods? I tried both of them one leads to the handle the other is the lock, the handle seems ok.
The bottom one goes to the underside of the lock? The top rod to the handle
This is the inside of the external door handle, the large rod which joins the handle works ok. The small rod with the small yellow tag down in the right bottom corner doesn't have any action, it joins to another part of the lock lower- I can't see inside but it feels loose around that area.
The culprit again
This is the lower rod comeing from the handle and I assume it joins to the locking mechanism near the small rod- this is also not giving any action past a certain point.
Hmm, so the question now is how can I fix it? I tried every possible connection but none seem to move anything but the handle or the lock nub.
yup the yellow one that runs to the actual door latcholck is the one you need to pull to get it to unlock..
it is still locked yeah?so grab it clost to the latch part and pull.. this will at least get your door unlocked. once your door is open grab it at the latch end and see if it has any play in the hinges.. if not it will be the latch. have you replaced anything there as in door handles or locks, it could be as simple as adjusting them to fix it.
if not pull the latch out (3 or 4 star bolts on the outer edge of the door, you will slao need to dissconnect the rods going to the latch.. it could be worn (you will see this) or could just be seized up (just clean and lube it up).
if its the door hinges a simple fix is to losen the door catch (on b pillar) and adjust it to suit the door.
cheers mark.

What a PITA this is, there seems to be an issue in the actual locking mech itself which is down in the door which is almost impossible to get to, it seems there is no way to unlock it removing the key barrel and handles doesn't change anything, we managed to get all of the door trim off with the door still closed but no success.
I know how you feel as I have been in a similar situation but not as bad as yours. You did well to get the door trim off. I had visions of getting an angle grinder out with mine and chopping through the door.
My advice is pray.
