hi as above i have a 029 stihl wich would run for 5 mins then it sounds like its flooding and then wont start again for 10 mins had a play with carby there is 3 screws H , L and LA anyone know wich one does what LA looks to be idle screw also any idea on factory setting of screws how many turns out?

L is you low speed screw
LA is your idle adjustment
H & L should be screwed in until they lighlty bottom out then unscrewed 1 full turn as a base setting, then fine tune from there.
The LA screw should be adjusted so the saw idles without the chain spinning. If you lean out the low speed you will need to back off the idle and vice versa if you richen up the low speed.
Sounds like you need to put a diaphragm kit through the carby and possibly a new needle.

Take it to a saw shop, ask nicely if they will show you how to tune it, only cost me $65 to get the plug lead replaced, machine tuned and springs in the dog clutch done ... starts third pul (two yanks on full choke, third on half .. it starts .. yeah i went to my local repair shop and it cost me 190 and no difference
anyway just done what mk patrol said and it started and was running rough done fine tune was running better than ever never revved so hard in its life and very responsive then burr sounds to me like its flooding it goes from rin rin to burr burr then stalls then if i leave it for 20 mins it will start and do same thing

So it is dying when if gets hot then restarts again when cold? It may have a crook coil. Next time it plays up, pull the spark plug out and check if it has spark. started it today and it ran like a champ cut for nearly an hour without a prob wtf????
as for the coil i checked for spark after it cut out the other day and i could feel it but i couldnt see it and it didnt hurt at all u could just feel it do chainsaws usually throw out much spark ?
enough to make u wanna let go off the plug i mean

Also check the fuel line for holes & splits mine was doing the same thing once the fuel line was replaced it ran great.

So you could feel it but not see it? A small saw like an 029 wont give out a strong spark compared to car etc. Just hold the plug to the cylinder, making sure you have a good connection, give it a few FAST* pulls on the starter, the spark should be fat and white/blue in colour. *if you dont pull the starter fast it will also give a yellow spark.
Check the condition of the wiring to the stop switch (under the air filter cover at rear of saw) as this can cause similar problems.
The fuel line and the impulse line(hard to see let alone get to) to the carb can split or crack after a while. just be careful that the H isn't set too lean (screwed in), that will make it rev higher (than it should) but will shag the motor in short order, once you've set the other screws get it revving hard (wide open throttle) and then use the H screw to make it rev hard - will sound smooth when its lean, then unscrew (richen) the H screw until the revs drop a bit and it starts to burble or 4 stroke as its called..never revved so hard in its life
Don't hold the throttle open for too long without load when its lean.
