hey, ive got a few questions regarding an old suzuki and diffs and t cases and stuff like that. We've got a really old trayback suzuki here that would have been around 1980 or something like that, it was 800 cc. What is this model called? what ratio are the diffs and T cases? will the Tcase fit in my widetrack 94 sierra? can i use the diff centres out of the old one in my diff?
I need to find out because if it will work, i have to dig the old zook up, it got buried in our tip about 5 years ago, so it will become an interesting mission. Thanks

the diffs on your car are different to anythng suzki built before 1986. Jimny? is it an import? sounds like an LJ50. except for the chassis. The Japanese had engines that we never did to fit in within motor sport classes. If it was built after 1983 then the transfer case might be usable. The first commercially available suzuki in australia was the LJ50. This is 550cc 2 stroke. This was never referred to in Australia as a Jimny.
Cars with Jimny on them anywhere are Japanese Domestic Market, which would mean a private import, but if it was an LJ (so the same shape as the ute in the picture above, then it would be 360cc air cooled (LJ10) or 360cc water cooled (LJ20) I have heard that some of the 360cc cars came into australia in very small numbers.
None of the parts on any of the above cars will interchange with your car.
If it is Sierra shape (newer than 1981) and a Japanese Domestic Market model, it will be badged "jimny" and have a 550cc three cylinder. These are four stroke. You could use the transfer case out of this car as it has very low ratios (about 3.3:1 low range)

Itsuki Post up a pic of what state the 80 is in.
It might be appauling, but a keen person with time and cash could possibly still restore it. Just look at what they do with hot rods (I know not quite the same, but anyway). If its no good to you, maybe you could sell it to someone keen and use the cash to buy some proper parts for your car (unless its really bad then sell it for a six pack).
Saw a rebuilt LJ81 up the shops near my place the other day, had a custom rear tray with oiled timber planks, nice set of alloys, was painted suzuki red, and looked to be running approx 30" AT tyres. It looked really good.

dude i dont if u missed my first post, but the lj80 is underground. It would have got squashed and shit when the bull dozer filled the hole in. I just thought the t case and diffs might be allright, but apparently they wont be useful anyway, so it wont be getting dug up.

I didn't pick up on the fact that it got dozed; I thought it you just ment it was sitting in th back paddock up to its axles, or something.

It would be 1981 or newer as it is a SJ body. Oh and it looks like NT axles, but can't tell if it would be 1L or 1.3L compatible diffs etc.

Motor will be as per LJ50, but there must have been some small changes over the years. Apparently around late 1981, they went to electronic ignition. I thought that lj50's had a separate tank for oil, is that the case with yours?

My guess is diffs are compatible with 1.0 stuff but not 1.3.

like gwagensteve said but that is exactly the same as mine that i was talking about last week. You will find it is a sj30 with the engine being an lj50 (550cc 2 stroke 3 cylinder) the only difference is mine is red and a soft top. Mine has no locking hubs but yours does? The diff centres are 4.777 and the transfer is 3.052:1. http://www.4x4.in.th/specification.html .This a link that will tell you the differences between all models . Mine is also recorded as an 85 model. yours will also have a rear fog light with the switch next to the hazard lights. By the way are your head lights h4 or h3? mine has h4 just curious. Its pretty cool there is another one in oz.
