GQ coils into Gen 2 with pics..

So i had to do something about my sagging rear end, the springs bottomed out quite easily and it was driving a bit like a boat. I picked up some heavy duty std. GQ coils for next to nothing to see how it would work.

From left to right, standard OE Paj coils 15mm wire, 2" lifted 4Way coils 18mm wire, heavy duty standard GQ coils 18.5mm wire.

Above is with the lifted Paj coils, 83cm from bottom of rim to bottom edge of the flare.

This is with the GQ coils, 89cm from bottom of the rim to the bottom edge of the flare.

The car now sits a lot higher, ride is much better, i wish i had done this in the first place and not shelled out for the lifted coils.

One small thing to note, the front is wound up to the max to accomodate the big lift in the rear. This is pretty much how it has been since i lifted it, but i've also reindexed the torsion bar 1 or 2 splines to allow for the fact that it has softened a bit too.

All in all, a very cheap and easy mod. New shocks are comming to match the extra lift as well as an extended brake line and diff hoses.

Yeah's all well and good (in fact, very good, mucho cool) but what about droop?

After the weekend just gone, I'm convinced of the benefits of not winding up to max lift, without allowing more droop... Drop a wheel into the hole, without lifting the back end sort of thing. (My challenger is almost on the stops at the front.)

You reckon it's worth shaving the stops for more dynamic droop? I mean, droop to be taken up by holes while on the move, rather than cranking the front up some more.

Yes 2 inch body lift as well, bump stops cut in half too. Droop in a lifted Paj is almost non existant, why do you need to drop a wheel into a hole, when you can gracefully glide through the air over it :D Seriously though, i don't think i've had a problem of no droop when out wheeling.

Isnt there an issue with lifts this large in the rear and the prop shaft angle?

I was reading another post http://www.outerlimits4x4.com/phpBB2/vi ... hp?t=34484

and the new measurement from bottom lip of the guard to the wheel arch was 840mm up from 745mm.

My measurement is 790mm, could anyone tell me if this means mine is already lifted? Oh and the front measurement is 750mm.

This is how it was when I bought it, and I thought it sat high, but I thought I was just not used to it yet.

Mine is a bit higher than that and I haven't had a problem with Uni's.

that measurement was on an NL GLS paj with 16" wheels

Allright, my preliminary findings is that the ride is too bouncey. It's like i've installed leaf springs and that's a very bad thing, rides like a Hilux, jiggles your man boobs like nothing else.. :lol: Though i does go around corners a lot better..

But, final judgement will have to wait untill after new shocks go in next weekend. Currently 1 shock is dead, the other still works though. So i dare say it will improve the ride a bit, but i'll let you know.

wouldn't the gq coils be to heavy for a pajero?

wrong spring rates? wich would equal rough ride and little flex.

The suspension will be way under damped, even more so that your shocks are stuffed. More likely the rebound is outta control, hence the bounce.
You could up rebound and compression rates but spending money to chase a fix outweighs the cheap coils doesn't it?

I've had gu springs under the back of my nh for nearly 2 yrs now they r great if a bit hard front wound right up and i find if i hit a ridge in the road or a pot hole the front wheels get a bit light I even feel if i brake too hard the front recoil almost lifts the wheels ....no vib from tail sharft and I drive around on 32's

Just to follow up this post..

After running new shocks for a few weeks, i decided that the coils are still too stiff and the ride unacceptable. I also think that flex will be severely effected too, so i'm going back to 2" lifted Paj coils, but with 30mm coil spacers untill i can afford some new lifted coils.

The GQ one's that i have are supposedly "heavy duty," this might be the difference between mine and the one's other people are running (Possibly original Nissan ones).

Oh well, was worth a try :)
