I would start by testing the switch. Multimeter is $20 well spent. :D

Yeah, all I normally use for these type of problems is a $3-$4 12 volt test light, easier to use than a multimeter me thinks, and a lot less fiddler for this purpose. Just my opinion. I have both m/m and test light and always pull out the light first.[/quote]

Dano I'm not sur what your driving I'm sure the early 1.3 sierra's used fuseable links at the battery, they look like wires are around 10cm long and are on the positive terminal i lost headlights years ago with old drover and thats what the problem was.

I find a test light is very confusing when working on a Suzuki. The weird ass earthing arrangement means you will get power on all three wires at the back of the headlight. I use a multimeter that has an audible beep for continuity and a <20V scale. Jas

yes it would is'nt there a link on everywire coming from the battery except the large cable going to the starter motor?
at the end of the day the problem will be a simple one just need to find it

the reason I bring this up I lost headlights one night pissed in the bush camping and I have no idea how we found it but with no light managed to work out the fuseable link at the battery was stuffed so we unpluged it and wedged the loom end of the plug into the battery terminal and it worked!

Look for the earths for the headlights.
The reason you are finding power from all parts of the plug on the headlights is because one will be the +ve supply and the other two will be the high and low filiments looking looking for a ground. The dip switch switches these to ground. If you have changed the switch then we will assume this is OK. A loss of ground to the switch may be the problem.
Confusing I know.

90 Sierra Soft top, 3" body 2" spring lift, 31" Claws, 5.14 Calmini, more to do.
